Day One - Sankey said he prefers to stay with 12 game playoff. Defended 8 game SEC schedule due to parity of teams. But said 9 game schedule is still possible. Said a decision needs to come soon to set the 2026 schedule especially if the move is to 9 games for schools to drop a current non conference game.

I'm with him, preferring to stay at 12 spots in the CFP. The only teams that need to be in the playoff are those that have a legitimate shot at proving they are the best team in the country. There are never 12 of those, much less 16. Would probably have been ideal if we'd expanded to just 8 and stayed there, but that particular horse already got out of the barn.

The question of 8 vs 9 game SEC slate I think still comes down to whether ESPN is willing to pony up the $$ Sankey and the ADs think it's worth. All this talk about other considerations is really just bargaining position. I like the idea of going to 9, just need to be smart about playoff structure if we go there.

A final question, @Vfl2407 : What does it signify, "(Open Thread)" in the title? I thought all threads are open, except for the rare one Freak closes for breaking the rules or other admin reasons.

By open thread, I mean it’s for all 4 days of SEC MEDIA DAYS.

Strength of Schedule says the SEC already has the toughest schedules in the country, and it's not close. Why would we go to 9 games when we already have more of the top 25 hardest schedules than all other conferences combined?
If we go to 9 then we’re gonna get 4 auto bids bc the CFP will expand to 16. I have mixed feelings about this, but I also think that it opens the door for better OOC games. I really like the idea of an SEC/Big 10 challenge played over the course of 2 weekends.

They can go to 16 without the SEC going to 9. Their are plans already proposed for that. The SEC will get at least 4 a year at 16 and doesn't need the auto bid. The B1G wants it bad though.

I think OOC games will get worse. With another SEC game, most teams will stop scheduling good OOC teams unless mandated by the conference. Teams like UK, UF, UGA, and Scjr will certainly not do bigger OOC games as they already have permanent ones.

The format the B1G wants is where the 9 games is coming from and favors them. It's bad for the SEC. The B1G needs those 4 auto bids. The SEC doesn't.

I think I like a 16 team playoff...no byes, 1 vs 16, etc. Home games for the higher seeds in round 1 only, then neutral sites.
Same! I do not like the byes at all. Make everyone play in round 1 and let the mayhem unfold with upsets!

Im afraid we're about to go to 9 games and 16 game playoffs because those fat cats need that yacht $$$.......I miss the 90s, last great decade of football.
I feel like 2013-2015ish was some of the last pure football where the defenses weren't always at a disadvantage. The fact that the Clowney tackle against Michigan now would be a penalty is atrocious. I just cannot stand the QB protections/helmet on helmet calls that can totally change a game because a defender is just trying to make a play.
