Need 104.5 The Zone or 102.5 The Game to commission a survey

Those of us who live in middle Tennessee know, just by daily life experience, that there are a lot more Vols fans than Vandy-ites in the center of the state.

But that's just anecdotal. We need an actual survey, scientifically valid, conducted by a firm in the business of doing surveys, like Nielsen or one of their peers.

And who could ask for (pay for) this survey? Well, who could possibly care more in a financial sense than the media types whose business relies on attracting sports fans?

So come on, I know the 104.5 and 102.5 crews have at least one staffer assigned to keeping an eye on fan websites like ours, one of you guys get the idea into your board room. Maybe you could even work together on it, split the bill. We need a survey!

The question to ask: among respondents who identify as college sports fans, what SEC team do you cheer for first and foremost?

Once and for all, let's figure out how widely Vols fans out-number Vandy fans in the capital city of this great state.

Middle Tennessee, more specially Nashville goes like this:

1)HUGE Vol fanbase
2)HUGE any SEC team that is currently good
3)SMALL Vandie fanbase that is also #2 on this list if it means the team beat the Vols.

Agreed. Most of the crew talk a lot more about what movies they recently watched, or what they had for dinner, than they do football. And the few hosts who do talk sports, they spend all their time on the pros (Titans, Preds).

If I need to listen to sports radio that actually discusses college sports, I go to a Knoxville station through the interwebz.

But I would appreciate 104.5 and 102.5 if they can gin up this survey of middle Tennessee college fandom.

Living in Central Florida and significantly out of the Vol "market", I've honestly found that I can get all kinds of "talking head" Tennessee content info from youtube channels and/or podcasts. Hook the phone up to the car via Android Auto (or the Apple crap) and listen to it while I work/commute.

I think just like live TV, less and less people are listening to actual radio stations via FM/AM anymore anyways.

Sidenote: As an 80's kid, I love that our generation (gen x) is pretty much the last group to watch Live TV (save a swath of older millennials) because the programming seems to be geared towards us.

As someone who works for the same parent company as 104.5, I can tell you that they do a lot of research to find the right balance of Titans/Vols/other content to air on the station. I don't think the station would see a monetary return on doing the exact survey you suggest.

However, the fact that 104.5 is willing to pay several times more money for the Tennessee contract than 102.5 pays to carry Vanderbilt sports suggests that the research they do supports that.
