He does this every year since 2005. "I am still blown away numerous times while working on this project with what I hear about some of the amazing things college football players have done or can do.
I rely on the intel from coaches, schools, teammates, parents, NFL scouts, NFL Scouting Combine trainers and agents. As you can see, the hardest part of this project is keeping it to 100."

No. 12 Arion Carter, Tennessee, linebacker

The 6-1, 235-pound junior had a breakout season in 2024, leading a stacked defense with 68 tackles to go with 6.5 TFLs and one interception. The junior will linebacker, a team captain, is a more explosive athlete than most running backs. This offseason, Carter, a former 300-meter hurdler in high school, vertical jumped 40.3 inches. He’s also hit 21.2 mph on the GPS and bench pressed 325 pounds.

They had me until 325 lb. bench press. I was like OMG, OMG, OMG, That's Amazing...umm what? That's light for a linebacker. Needs to hit them weights harder. Awaiting the better than you could do comments...

The position has really changed a lot in the last 10-15 years. The Mikes and SLBs used to be 240 lb maulers. Now it can be hard to look at players during warmups and tell the difference between a LB and a Safety.

Solid point but you can bench that weight at 175 lb. I was 174 lb and benched 305 lb. and I had no trainer or access to Athlete facilities. Another guy was an ex-nose guard from Rutgers, who had lost weight down to 235 lb and he was cranking 420+. I'm not saying "it's bad." I just wouldn't add it to his great achievement list.

What's the squat and leg press numbers? These guys drive and plant with strength from the lower body.

Yep, didn’t they have to step in and stop a liftoff between Al Wilson and Jamal Lewis that was approaching 500 on the bench?

It seems like SEC LBs should be in the 400 range or so.

When 235 lb Arion whips by your lead blockers at 21.2 MPH, he may bench only 98 pounds but you still end up flat on the ground.

If I remember correctly Carter has very long arms. That definitely plays a part in it.

Edit: believe I was thinking of Joshua Josephs actually. I’m not sure what Amarion Carters wingspan is

Cam Seldon is number 70 on the list. Interestingly listed as a WR-RB.

Yeah but its not everything. I would rather have a great squat and deadlift then benchpress. Also a clean and snatch is vital for explosive athletes.

May be an incomplete stat--how many times did he bench 325?

For comparison, remember that the NFL combine measures how many reps at 225 lbs. and the lift rules are very strict.
(I'm sure at UT they are making sure players are "combine-ready" on their technique.)

Usually if you can clear it three times you can count it.

Still go to disengage with your arms from blockers, etc. I'm not bashing the kid I'm just saying that stat was underwhelming compared to the awesomeness of the other stats and that he has room for improvement in that one particular area. I'd bet we got some corners and safeties that bench that or more.
