It’s funny how narratives change. I’m sure there would be some Vol fans who would rather have Gruden but I’d think the poll would be hugely in favor of Heupel. 80/20 Heupel? Before Pruitt it would be almost 100% Gruden, probably 75-80 Gruden when Heupel was hired.

Am I wrong thinking TN got a better coach than Gruden would have been?

Don’t think JG would have a better overall record than Heupel. Do you?

I know it's not the regular season, yet. But, how do these questions even get started?

I'd rather have the guy that is committed to the University (and it's traditions); Co-coaches; Players and Fan-base! -- Rather than someone who is most-likely only committed to a pay-check...

Say what you want about Gruden and his "connections" to Tennessee. But, I'm willing to bet that he has at least been approached before -- And he wasn't interested. (PERIOD)

Heupel has made us relevant again -- And THAT's who I'd rather have!

Didn't want Gruden when they hired Kiffin, didn't want Gruden when they hired Dooley, didn't want Gruden when they hired Jones, would have taken Gruden over Pruitt but it would have been just as big of a disaster, and didn't want Gruden when they hired Heupel.

Gruden is desperate to get his name out there. That’s all this is about.
This is exactly what it is. If some NFL team is looking for a guy, Gruden just got his name mentioned.

As I said before, kids coming up now probably have little idea who Gruden is. He gives you zero recruiting points.

There should be a "seam ripper" tool for the mods for threads like this.

I'm thinking Arkansas as well. It would be a good hire imo.

Possibly or it could blow up in their face. The Belicheck at UNC still needs to play out as that one has been "interesting" so far. Solid NFL coaches haven't really done that well at the college level. The two exceptions where Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll. All of the others have struggled.

Gruden messed up badly. Probably an overhyped coach that would have made bank at Tennessee only to fail. He ruined his career by going back to the NFL.

I honestly can't see any major team hiring him as a HC. Even a team like Kentucky would be a stretch now imo
