College football blue bloods

I can’t see the argument for FSU or Miami. If you were nothing until Ronald Reagan became president, you can’t be a blue blood.

I will say their peaks are probably top 5 historically, but Blue Bloods imply Old Money. Those teams are New Money. I’m not buying LSU either. Nebraska is more of a blue blood than several teams on the list.

My thoughts exactly

You're definitely entitled to be wrong, which you are.

Duke Basketball didn’t start winning until after Ronald Reagan. If they aren’t a blue blood, then no one is. Perhaps we can reconsider the last 45 years?

A good 10-20 years doesn’t make you a blue blood. Miami was good for about 15 years out of a 20 year stretch and has been mediocre since. FSU was good for about 20 years, took about 10 years off, and then had another 5 or 6 years. They are coming off a 2-10 season. Not a blue blood. LSU has a tremendously high ceiling but weren’t anything special until Saban. Again, not a blue blood.

You have to be great across generations to be a blue blood. I wouldn’t call us or Georgia blue bloods really, but we had an 80 year stretch where we were the winningest program in college football.

Basketball is a bit different because college football existed for 70 years before the NCAA Tournament started. The NFL was around for nearly 30 years before the NBA (I do include pro alumni success in what I consider a blue blood). Their timeframes to judge off of are a bit shorter.

Basketball had a tournament 85 years before football. Surely people have always voted on who they thought was best prior to tournaments, in all sports.

For many years, they voted and awarded the National Championship at the end of the regular season, before they played the bowl games! How weird is that?
