Michigan learns their fate today

They are having a call at 1 p.m. ET, but the details are usually released an hour before the call. I am sure we will be underwhelmed.

Former coaches will likely get hit hardest. I think we'll see several show causes, one or two of which might be quite long.

No post-season ban. Possible financial penalties to the program. Maybe loss of scholarships, but what does that even mean any more in the NIL era?

Big question, I think, is whether the record book is affected. Will Michigan have Ws taken off their board? Potentially even the national title? I don't think the latter, since the main douchebag in charge of cheating was out of the program by then, but quite possibly they could vacate a lot of wins.

Harbaughs show clause, probably 5 years for failure to monitor. Stalions banned.

They are estimating $10M-$15M in fines.

Moore suspended, probably first 3 games of the year.

No vacated wins. Besides, the program stopped before early in 2023, so there's no reason to vacate the title.

Michigan has been in cooperation the entire time. Michigan is going to comply since the NCAA won't vacate anything

Well if the loss of scholarships were a big enough number think 5 or 10 a year it would mean something since you can’t have Walkons anymore

With the new scholarship limits, even under that scenario Michigan could still have 95-100 players under scholarship. Very limited impact on depth. I don't see anything of significance here. I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't the NCAAs last big investigation, at least in football.

“Today the NCAA is to set a price on the national championship”.

I’ll be surprised if the NCAA makes any ruling of consequence. The NCAA needs to do something though, because there are 135 schools beside Michigan investing money in this competition and they intentionally followed the rules that Michigan intentionally broke and tried to hide. If the NCAA does not come up with an acceptable punishment, then surely other schools are entitled to sue for damages.

A whole lot of nothing and it will happen again...somewhere. Michigan has written the playbook on how to do it. Find an ambitious young person that is willing to be a scapegoat if caught. Make sure as a head coach you have plausible deniability. Then delay, deny, divert, and diffuse under the guise of cooperation.

Agreed. My guess is this is extremely common, just Michigan got caught.

The damn joke it, is that Michigan is suspending Sherrone Moore for 2 games, but not for the Oklahoma game in Norman, which is week 2.

Yeah, this is weak. What is to stop other teams from doing the same thing if this is the only punishment given?

how will they ever recover from such a massive penalty?! They may as well have just beheaded Sherrone, instead of making him suffer through this hell!

all jokes aside, of course this is all Michigan gets lol. Anyone who thought they’d even consider vacating their natty was extremely naive at best, and delusional at worst.
