It’s probably my perception, but it seems last year the defense had trouble stopping third and 10 with the opposing teams hitting slants in the middle. Today:

4/10: 29 yard pass over the middle
3/10: 11 yard pass over the middle
3/11: 22 yard pass up the left
3/6: 28 yard pass up the middle
4/1: 8 yard pass up the middle

Five chances blown to get off the field. It feels like they have a better chance of getting off the field on 3 and short vs 3 and long.

Is it just hard to defend or kryptonite of the UT defense? I don’t have numbers to back it up, but felt like this was an issue last year, too.

It’s not you. It’s been a trend with Banks as our defensive coordinator. I know all of the arguments: it’s the players, they have to make plays, etc. But the trend is undeniable (to me).

His defenses struggle to get off the field on 3rd and long . . .

I noticed it too, so you’re not alone. A big concern is the lack of pressure we’re able to get in good situations, which leads to the qb having a lot of time, which felt different than 1st and 2nd downs

We were great at getting off the field on third down last year.

I think most of that started after AC went down, but I could be wrong. I think there will be less of that with McCoy and Boo back and in full action. We definitely disintegrated.

I agree with you, do better on third and short than we do on 3rd and long. And the middle is and has been vvery vulnerable for us. I don't know the solution, i was watching on tv and can't really tell if dc is changing the defensive, but if he is, maybe we should stick to what got us to 3rd and long.

Do you think this is on the Mike LB? Cover 2, safeties playing too deep and the corners covering the outside. Always vulnerable between the lb and safeties. Teleanders responsibility?

I’m sure coach Banks is reading this and will thank me for the observations.

I noticed the same, we got carved passing downs.... Poor pash rusher with 4 and awful safety play. Biggest concern of the game, we really need McCoy back and someone to emerge as elite on the DL
