We’ve all heard about him not having offers out of HS. The idea of becoming a firefighter. A pure hearted kid it seems.
As well as a QB with a live arm. He’s faster than people realize and his release is very quick.

He would have thrown for 300 yards if not for so many drops. Some of that was him being a bit off target but he was on target much more.

I will be watching Nico tonight to see how he does. And as crazy as it seems…we need to thank Nico for leaving. Aguilar is a better QB.

It’s still early. It’s just game one. But this new offense paired with Aguilar is a beautiful thing and I don’t see Nico or Arch, or Ty Simpson running our offense the way he did today.

This kid is supposed to be balling at UCLA.
Instead he’s brought something very special to Knoxville. This is going to be fun season!

Nico will probably have gaudy stats, but I don't care.
I like this team. I would like them healthier.

I say that because he is all they've got. So he will be slinging it and running alot.

We’ll see my friend. I’ll be shamelessly watching the UCLA/Utah game tonight. I suspect he’s going to find out really quick that he isn’t surrounded by nearly as much talent as he had at Tennessee. In fact I’m sure him and BIG NICK are secretly salty after Joey’s strong debut.

Funny how he was throwing high early on, but then started bringing his throws down. This is a kid who is learning and working on his techniques. I'm hoping Matthews gets a little better with the hands as the year goes along.
The team has a lot to improve on period.
But it’s a team full of hungry and talented players.

Matthews will come around.

QB not going to be an issue this year.

Receivers need to put on some stick’um or work on their focus.

Defense was without many pieces today and still managed against (I think) a quality foe.

We gonna be a team to be reckoned with

Totally agree with everything you said. I shutter to think about the end score with "Mr I" as the QB

Tennessee didn’t play a team as talented as those 3 teams. The analogy is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. All 3 would beat Syracuse by 3 TDs
I mean, Bama only lost by two touchdowns to an ACC team that went 2-10 last year, so it just stands to reason they'd beat an ACC team that went 10-3 last year by three touchdowns.

I'll take any QB that can read a defense and can get out of the pocket when the line collapses, instead of panicking and falling on the ground. I think he played well. I'm still going to manage my expectations as we'll play better teams than Syracuse.
Well, after perusing the Bama boards (yes I need to take a shower), they said he was ‘okay’ but much better than Nico.. which from them is the equivalence of begrudging high praise.. and you know they don’t want to say anything positive about us lmao… they need to be worried about their own problems 😂

Last year may have been a fluke for Fl state. What happened to them the year before? We all thought they were gonna be awful because of last year, maybe they are back to their former selves... much as i dislike Fl state. When they are good.... it's good for CFB.

speaking of Bama. I need to go see if Kangaroo Black posted a video. He's a Bama fan but he gives TN plenty of praise and he doesn't hold back on Bama when they play bad
