What a great way to start the season for our Vols! We came into ATL and dominated the Orangemen of Syracuse pretty much the entire game. Yes, they moved the ball in the 2nd half and scored some, but we were banged up and got a bunch of new guys some snaps on defense. Hopefully, everyone can get healthy over the next 2 weeks when Georgia comes to town. On top of our win, Bama lost and Nico still sucks, so it was a great start to the season for Vols fans! Let’s take a quick look at keys to victory against ETSU.

1. Get right, defense! We got a good test in week 1. Syracuse had a great passing attack last year, and they moved the ball against us well in the 2nd half with numerous starters held out. We need to get healthy and get right this week. ETSU runs an up tempo offense, and wants to run the football. I expect us to try to stuff the run and make them throw it. If we can do that successfully, it should be a long day for them and an early exit with some rest for some our banged up starters.

2. Keep doing what we do with our running game. Another game and another 200+ yard effort by our offense. The running game looks very good and should get better and better as we gel more and more up front. This should continue this week and get tuned up for Georgia in 2 weeks.

3. Work on getting in sync with our passing game. Let’s be honest…we looked better than most expected throwing the ball. BUT, we have some kinks that we need to work out. WRs HAVE to catch catchable balls. Joey needs to get the ball down some before he gets one of them killed. Things should get better with more live game reps. I expect us to take a few shots and get the deep ball connections working as we rev up for SEC play.

Prediction:

This game shouldn’t be close, but I want to see us come out sharp and focused. ETSU will have energy early as this game is way bigger for them than for us. I expect they will score a few points, but we will score at will. I expect to see a lot of reps for the youngsters in 2nd half and rest for the starters, as we look forward to our clash with Georgia.

First.

We get to rotate even more young guys in than we did this weekend. Look for the defense to get their paws on a couple more balls, while our RB stable takes advantage of the massive holes our offensive line open.

I would love to see Aguilar get a full half before we turn to Merk and GMac, so he can continue to build his rapport and timing with the WRs.

Tennessee: 3x what some of you guys can count (finger and toe limitations)
Bucs: One hand math

Not even predicting a score, with the new 9 game conference schedule and having to play one P4 team a year maybe these kinda games can be moved to Spring for a scrimmage... For every P4 team in Country playing FCS school need to disappear...

I'm thinking these games are 2 fold . Working on some practice and giving players banged up a little more time to heal . Having good backups will be a must and one of the hardest to accomplish with the transfer ability.

Play clean, and stay healthy. The buc’s will definitely give us fits at points this game, they have a solid and veteran team. If we can heal up and get more reps for the uga game thenwe will be fine

No and won't happen unless those P4 universities share money with the rest of the schools in their state university systems directly without games. But those beatdowns are also once-in-a-lifetime experiences for many of the kids who go to those schools but grew up dreaming of playing in Neyland or a place like it.

ETSU is probably better than UAB and New Mexico State

ETSU blew out Murray St 45-17

UAB gave up 42 to Alabama St

NMST beat Bryant 19-3

Exactly. It think its awful how bent out of shape people get over a few cupcakes a year. Like, why does it bother ppl so much? It has literally always been that way too. Back in the Neyland days we were playing Maryville and Chattanooga every year. It's almost been that way across all college football.

It's also how you get upsets. NMST, cupcake sure, but they've also beaten Auburn recently, GA St beat us and Vandy recently. G5's beat P4 teams every year. FCS teams beat P4 teams every year.

We share the wealth so football is possible for G5 and FCS teams, so if you make them obsolete, we'll essentially be in a minor league.

I also like seeing the young players play, like Merk and Mac in a game like this.

lastly, this game is actually affordable! it was still $198 for my wife and I. Would literally have to break the bank to go to any SEC game. Now there's one less game that's actually affordable.
