Syracuse looked like a pretty good team to me.

Definitely dangerous if they can stay healthy. I just never felt like they were out of it and were always just to play or two away from having us in real trouble.

Not to beat a dead horse, and I don't wish ill on the guy at all, but we lose that game with Nico…
I thought so too…much better than I expected…definitely better than the NC State and Virginia teams we faced in the last two years

They looked pretty good but they were never really into it .. we went into half with 31-7 lead .. the closest they got from there was 2 scores .. so we never were even in one score affair…
Their QB looked very poised and made a lot of good decisions along with some bad ones ..
we still struggle over the middle of the field .. been an issue since Dooley, Butch and esp Pruitt days .. we gave up two bad 3 and longs that ended up in scores. Could have easily stopped them and made it a blowout.

Well coached team and they play hard. Good QB and RB too. Their defense is subpar

Cuse has a big strong oline, and a qb that is accurate when given time. Early in the game when we blitzed we were able to stop them easily. In the second half between us getting conservative with defensive calls and our d line getting banged up, they moved the ball with ease.

Their defense is trash.

They lost some pieces, but they were a 10-3 team last season, knocking Miami out of the playoffs by dropping nearly 50 points on the U. They brought in some portal guys (like everyone) and had some youth on defense, but they are certainly no push over. The offense looks pretty good, the QB seems mature and very poised and can make some really nice throws. They'll have a good year, I'd imagine.

I've never looked at Syracuse as a push over. No one should, or they can beat you. They play decent football. Their old school history is very rich and MANY greats have came out of Syracuse, even in my lifetime.

They’ll catch somebody napping in the ACC, I think.

The win should age well.
It’s a solid win but the schedule alone will prevent Syracuse from winning more than about 7 games. Their road schedule is insane. On the road, they play Clemson, SMU, GA Tech, Miami and Notre Dame. How in the world they caught all their toughest conference opponents on the road, I don’t know but they did. The easy ones are all at home.

Their Running back Willis is legit he will take them far in the ACC just hard to bring down with the 1st hit and they have a decent passing game. They will have a good year without looking at their OOC and the teams they drew in the ACC on their schedule.

It's funny because throughout the course of the game I kept saying we looked soft on defense and Syracuse looked much tougher/more physical than we did.

Also, I know we had guys hurt but why do we look so damn little on the d-line? I swear at one point our d-line looked like a bunch of linebackers. Where are all the monsters? Where's the Henderson/Haynesworth body types?

They have smart coaches on offense that know how to coach up that side of the ball. It looks like they are going to have to out score opponents to win games similar to last season. They are probably not going to win 10 but could go 8-4. Overall, Syracuse was a good opening opponent to test our guys.

I think we still win with Nico, but it's mostly because of the running game. At least a 60% chance that Nico botched that TD pass that Aguilar threw and it's a closer game, though.

But Syracuse looked better than I expected. I know it's Week 1 and there's no reference, but they did a lot of impressive stuff on offense.

Moi and Hobbs didn’t play, so two of our bigger DTs were absent. Eason was dinged up as well. Nathan Robinson isn’t small at all and made some plays. That position group needs to get healthy in a hurry. Jamal Wallace is another reserve DT that played who is a monster. Bailey had to play out of position as a necessity.
