I like how we have more play calling options with JA this year. In 2023 it was run Wright. Run Wright again. And run Wright a third time. Last year, same scenario with D Samp. I noticed Saturday, how we might run it couple of times in a row but with a little different twist on the next play. I think the distance between the ears of JA is much better than the guy with pony tail and Milton.
This is impressive with a new center and rebuilt OLine. We have options this year it seems versus run the same play until they stop us. I just think coaching staff was very limited in what we could call and lacked trust QB could quickly recognize D and get us out of wrong plays.
The designed QB run plays are more productive as well. Joey is a gamer. I think his time spent in different systems has turned him into a quick learner. We will see how well he does as competition improves. If the playbook can remain open with ability to run the full system, we will see CJH out scheme the defense like we saw in 2022 with Hooker running and gunning the offense.
I really believe we have the best backfield in the country. Wideouts do not have to be great if we can run block for our stallions. We can dink and dime the passing game. Run and run and run until we lull the D into keying on run first with LBs and Ends committing to the backfield then throw some easy routes to move the chains. Then hit it deep like we were able to do with Hyatt in 22. Sounds simple but it works brilliantly when you can execute. Our big uglies up front seem to be a solid unit. Can’t wait to see what Sanders can do. Love that we were able to play like we did up front with everyone out of position. Stay healthy big guys and this could be a year we over achieve more than anyone expected. Go Big Orange!
