Hearing what fall camp reporters had to say I was expecting a lot more from Merk. Gmac seemed to have a much better command of the team. I wish Merk the very best but he needs to find a team that he fits.

And honestly it doesn’t seem all that close. It’s a bit of a head scratcher to me as to why George isn’t the clear backup but maybe Heupel is just letting Merk have QB2 for now to keep him from entering the December portal? If Joey gets hurt and Merk transfers we’d enter the playoffs with 1 undersized true freshman QB. Not ideal.
