When Spurrier brags about Vols qb that’s a mouth full.

When Spurrier brags it can also go to our heads. Never forget after we beat Florida in 2001 in the game moved to the end of the season because of 9/11, he came out after the game and said " Tennessee is going to win the SEC". The next week we then lost the SEC Championship to LSU despite being the favorite. Tennessee was 10-1 and LSU was 8-3 going into the game.

That was the beginning of the end for Fulmer. We should’ve never lost that game and played Miami in the Rose Bowl for the chip. We choked. Poor coaching, esp. defense. 🤦‍♂️

And we had already beaten them in Neyland earlier in the year. We knocked out their starting QB and RB and damn I'm pissed once again.

I don't think I will ever get over that game. 20 years of heartache and hell started that night in Atlanta

I like Spurrier as a person. He’s like Lane Kiffin if Lane wasn’t a complete douche bag. But I will never take anything he says about the Vols seriously unless he’s making fun of us. Then I know he’s being genuine.

We didn’t know how good Saban would end up being at that point. Beating him twice in one year is tough. They won the national title 2 years later. Imagine if he would have stayed with LSU given UF the automatic loss each year instead of UT, probably would have changed the SEC east race a few times over the next 20 years.
