He coached scared on multiple occasions. You can’t be a chickenshít against Kirby Smart. The punt at midfield that they drove the field on, and especially the decision not to center the ball on the field goal at the end were scared decisions, and you cannot coach scared against teams like that. There were other issues in the game, but the head coach’s in game decisions cannot be an issue if you are going to beat a powerhouse.

I thought you would reference the decision for three straight conservative runs after the recovered fumble.

Nope. This is not on the coaches at all. It's on Gilbert.

Any blame on the defense?
Yes. Some blame goes to the defense. But they were very shorthanded. Hard to blame the true freshman corner for being picked on. I have a lot of issues with Banks and Martinez and their overall approach to the secondary, but that’s a given and it is baked in.

Heupel’s decision making is the big variable from this game.

38 on Kirby is amazing 0 blame on heup he set his team up to win the game and we didn’t execute period… hindsight 20/20 there are always things you can change but to blame heup is silly… 64 committing a false start on a kneel down and kicker missing a very make-able fg hurt us most… he far out-coached Kirby and we deserved to win it… don’t always work out but I think we will be just fine…

Put the ball in the middle of the field for a college kicker. Make any kick 40+ as easy as you can. You make things as easy as you can on the guy.
In the SEC or Big 10, that has to be 3 points. he didn't miss it due to distance. He missed it because he couldn't handle the pressure. Holly Rowe let us know that before he even went out to attempt the kick.

I agree he made some conservative calls and the mentality is picked up on by the team(one of the things I couldn't stand about Fulmer), but I'm not sure all of those calls were on him. The camera showed him rather upset and yelling into the mic about a conservative run play on 3rd and long.

He didn’t “far outcoach” Kirby. On key decisions, Heupel choked. And that’s not hindsight, I was screaming it before he did it.

He’s the head coach. No call comes in without his approval. If it does, that’s still on him.
