I agree with many who have posted that our kicker makes that kick 9-10 times. It was not a chip shot in a pressure packed situation. I know this is not guaranteed . . . But sports usually has a way of presenting a redemption opportunity. I believe that opportunity will come for Max in a big game - maybe the Bama game or maybe we play UGA again.

Shouldn’t have even come to that. We had time and all 3 timeouts. We should have kept driving, maybe even scored, or at worst left the kick to be a chip shot.

The staff needs to stay aggressive! Thats when the offense is effective. We had them in roller skates and did them the favor by slowing it down to run out the clock to try a FG from over 40 yds. That’s NEVER gimme.

Agree - my dad used to say frequently:

In sports, there is nothing sure about a double play in baseball or a FG kick in football. We get used to thinking it’s almost automatic. But it was not a gimme kick. We should have attempted to get inside the 20.

We did try. We were on the 20 then had a false start.

I dont think UGA will be on our schedule next year due to realignment, but he needs redemption!

My only gripe is why didn’t we take the time to put ball in the middle of the field?

100%. It's totally simplistic to say that Max simply 'choked', but that's the knee jerk reaction of most fans.

Anyone who plays golf will get this - kicking and putting in golf are very similar in that routine and rhythm have as much to do with proper execution as the simple action itself. Free throw shooting in basketball is the same thing.

Josh took Max and the FG team completely out of rhythm by rushing them out there with two timeouts in his pocket and 7 seconds left. After the penalty, we should have run that same play to center the ball, then call time out, then send the FG unit out there in rhythm. Josh panicked and it clearly affected the execution of the FG.

Should Max have made the kick regardless? Easy to simplistically say "yes, that's what he's there to do", but with that level of pressure why not keep the kid in his routine? It's moot, obviously, but to me it's more on Josh than Max.

THIS! CJH took his foot off the pedal once he got the lead and started playing conservative in second half. That's a common thing for coaches to do (seen this with Fulmer, Dooley, etc.) but it's the wrong approach IMHO and it cost us yesterday. What makes us dangerous on offensive is up tempo and coach slowed that down a lot in second half. You can't abandon things like this just because you think you might make mistakes, want to burn the clock (or maybe it was because you wanted more rest time for your defense?)

Did Kirby ever take his foot off the gas and play ultra conservative during the game? Hell no! On 4th & 6 with minutes left in the game, did he choose a conservative play to just get a few yards for first down? Hell no! He went for the jugular aggressively and took a major shot to the endzone and it paid off bigtime for GA.

Great teams find a way to win and stay aggressive! Georgia did just that as bad as I hate to say it. Vols got too conservative at times and that made a difference. Last thing I'll say is us alums, season ticket holders and fans don't pay all that money to support UT athletics and come to games to watch 3 and outs with a cloud of dust. We want to watch a true show, complete with air raids, trick plays and all the goodies. We saw some of that yesterday but just need more. Maybe CJH will learn that one day. Keep that faith and GO VOLS!

We were right where we needed to be at the end of regulation but I believe the moment at that time was just too big for the young man. Not putting any blame on him mind you but I agree with Go47. These things have a way of coming back around and I believe he will have his moment sooner rather than later. Failure is not always a bad thing as long as you let it drive you rather than bring you down. I’m rooting for Max. Go VOLS

I'm honestly way more irritated about the false start and the defense constantly being out of position than the kicker

I’m pretty sure the last words said were “Don’t jump offsides! In fact, don’t do anything but stand there!” as the QB was going to take 2 steps to his right and kneel down.

Obviously, too much to comprehend by the L guard.

It shouldn’t of came down to that because….

The defense shouldn’t of given up 38 freaking points.

It’s more complicated than that. Have to look at our kickers going back to before Jeff Hall and after the Reviez brothers. Hall beat Syracuse but Lincoln missed against Bama. Wilhoit missed extra point against Florida but nailed game winning FG.

Would anyone trade the game winning FG against Bama three years ago to make yesterday’s?

I would not.

Honestly man, if we had gotten another penalty, lost yards, fumbled the ball, or if the play had somehow been extended and time ran out, then going for it instead of kicking wouldn’t have been a guaranteed win. If that happened, everyone would be asking why we didn’t just kick it. We have a good kicker, and the coach knew it. It was just a terrible miss—one that will haunt him.
