Put the gun down...

I think we're going to be okay. Please stop kicking your dogs and beating your wives. We almost beat a Porche in a Vtech Sh*tbox.
One of the few reasonable threads post game.

Given the commitments we have for 2026, it's looking brighter every year. Too many feel entitled yet haven't got a clue about the process

We know if we're in another tight game and go away from what was working and go conservative the end result will be the same. We have seen that a LOT over the years but coaches seem to never learn.
Yet, if the field goal had been made, Heupel would be a genius right now. It's really part of nature for a coach to pull back on the reins a little to try and protect a lead as time runs down. If he had been aggressive and there was a pick six, he would have been just as much a goat.

Yes I was trying to explain to my companion at the game what he was doing on that last drive. We agreed to disagree.

I think settling for 3 after the fumble rather than getting 7 and going up by 12 was a key. If we had went up by 12, we are probably celebrating right now and the field goal attempt at the end is irrelevant.

Like any close game there is a host of what ifs that could have made a difference.

Right. I remember when Bama missed the FG in 2022 and Heupel took a knee and played for overtime. Made me so mad. We’ve lost one - one possession game since 2021. I’m not sure that the Arkansas road loss last year . was due to playing tight.

Those rankings don't mean as much as they used too. NIL and portal make it possible to compete without having a cabbage patch of 5 stars in your back yard like UGA does. Kirby has a easy recruiting job. Just step out the door and stumble across 5 star players.

I don't think the 2022 Bama game ended that way lol

True, I do think there are specific types of players you want the best players. QB is slowly becoming not one of them. Give that freshman time to mature and then look at them from the portal to know which fits your program.

I think a lot of players end up at programs that don't really fit their style of play but they think they can do anything and be successful anywhere coming out of high school

I've seen this sentiment expressed many times in the last day, and while I understand the feelings behind it, I also don't know how it's supposed to be a comfort.

If the idea is that Tennessee fans should be comforted knowing UT was playing a much more talented team ... well ... those rankings in the screenshot suggest UT isn't catching up. So now what? If UT's current recruiting is a "Vtech Sh*tbox," then what? Tennessee has done pretty well but it hasn't caught up to the top programs in recruiting. Is UT always gonna be the program coming in with less talent looking for a puncher's chance to upset the big programs? Because that's not a comfort. That's just disheartening. The big money dogs like Texas and Ohio State are not going anywhere. They are going to continue to spend money.

Also, I'm not cool with calling the current team a "Vtech Sh*tbox" but I understand the purpose of the analogy.

I like a older QB for Heupel's system. He does too obviously, he can run it at the breakneck speed he wants too. The young guys don't process the stuff fast enough and get rattled in hostile environments.. They're plug and play instead of slowly developing deal like freshmen tend to be..
