I got bored and curious over the past month and created a spreadsheet of all the head coaches (including interim) for all current teams in Division 1 football. I only used current conferences and active teams, rather than reverting to previous conferences through the years. I wanted to see what each teams longest consecutive term for a coach was and how many coaches each team had for how many seasons they had been active.
-Any coach with 2+ years got a school color for their blocks, I used teamcolorcodes.com to get as close as possible.
-Interim coaches counted in the total number of coaches.
-When coaches switched partway through the season, the box is split with Coach 1/ Coach 2.
-Longest term coach went consecutively, not just by number of seasons. Our team is a good example of these. General Neyland had 21 years as coach, but over three separate stints so Phillip Fulmer is our longest consecutive coach with 17 years consecutively.
-A couple coaches had their term split by WWII, but no other coach took over during those times. If there wasn't a football team to coach and they came back to coach after the war, I considered it consecutive.
Unfortunately this is a giant spreadsheet, as it spans 1869-2025, so as much as I would love to post the whole thing here, it will not let me make a picture that detailed. I have attached a screenshot of the beginning of the SEC, but I have done all conferences and there is a link to the google sheets document below. Hopefully someone finds this as interesting as I did while making it!
