This thread can be rolled out more where Josh Heupel didn't listen to the 'noise' and been proven correct.

Include Coach Martinez who was scolded for years (including me I regret to say) and suddenly we have portal transfers McCoy, Hood and McMurray and recruited and developed Redmond and Poteat (who is meant to be a good un) making up the best CornerBacks department I have known at Tennessee.

Include Coach Elerbee, "none of his recruits have ever started" they shouted, well transfers Heard (who is playing at a 1st round draft pick level now he is fit), Moi & Pendleton, add recruits No 1 Sanders who is probably a cant miss recruit, but also how about No 767 Jesse Perry (not even playing in his best position) or No 303 Urmarov.

Suddenly I am reading some people are calling for Coach Banks to be replaced. He who had built a brilliant defense last year to the point he was nationally acknowledged. How people overlook that he was missing McCoy, Gibson, Moi and Hobbs on Saturday and Stockton had a career day, making throws he will probably never make again.

I've learnt to trust in Coach Heupel.

Yeah it turns out the real problem was having two straight years of QB play where they just rely on their arm strength and throw the ball as hard as they can with little to no touch.

Joey doesn’t have the cannon that Nico or Milton had, but his placement is so much better and he throws with touch that allows his WRs to actually make a play on the ball.

As someone pointed out, it seems WRs in this system really struggle in their 1st year and then take off in their 2nd. I dont put much stock into last year. Bru was never the same and it felt like Thornton and squirrel was constantly hurt.

Not unusual when you are rebuilding a program. I think the present is bright and the future is even brighter.

One of the best things about Heupel is that he is able to adapt his game plan to the strengths of his roster. As the roster continues to improve, I suspect we will see all three phases playing at a high level.

Position coaches in CFB are basically all the same. Their job is to recruit. They all teach the same technique etc. What sets them apart is they either recruit well or they don't. Look at all the great assistants Saban had that were average or just plain bad at other schools.

The part about Banks having a brilliant defense is wrong. Against really good teams, he is average. We are terrible on 3rd and 4th downs against quality opponents

Not me - I said all through the off season our WRs weren't going to be able to play against SEC level talent...WRONG.
I said our OL would get pushed around worst than the last two years...Saturday proved me WRONG again.


I LOVE being proven wrong though !!!

When you have big time outlets talking about Brazell being WR1 in the 2026 draft, you know you've done something right with recruiting and coaching.

I love to watch fans rant and rave about the quality or lack thereof concerning assistant coaches. People making judgment calls about someone's ability, yet they don't have a clue what this person does for 80 hours a week as an assistant coach. Almost none whatsoever. 😂 It reaches fever pitch, when people want to chime in to tell which assistant we need to replace the last one with. That's when it really gets funny.

He's a Sophomore that didn't play a ton last year with 13 catches on like 16 targets with 200 yds through 3 games this year.
Other than only having 1 TD grab, i think he's doing okay...he'll likely be WR1 next year.
