...Ohio State lost to Michigan, then ran the table to win the natty. Tennessee lost to both Georgia and Arkansas and still made the playoffs.

So all is not lost.

We are a much, much better team this year than we were last year, and people outside the program are taking notice. There is a lot of football left to play, and I am feeling great about the Vols now. People should not lose faith, and should not be complaining about Coach Heupel; more than any player, CJH is the reason for our success. If he stays, he could have more success than Fulmer. I believe he will have more consistent success against Georgia, Bama and Florida. He could reach the level of a Spurrier or a Meyer. But we as a fanbase must stop all the crazy talk about replacing coaches when we lose. I think it's crucial that we get behind the team 100% right now.

I’m not convinced we are a better team this year than last year. The offense is definitely better this year. That’s apparent, and I’m loving it. But we had a great defense last year, and so far this season, the defense looks poor. They looked poor versus Syracuse as well. Maybe if we are able to get healthier on defense, the added depth will make a difference. There are still lots of question marks as it is early in the season.

between injuries and youth we are hoping for improvement as the season progresses.

I don't mind thinking positive, but comparing us to another team's circumstances doesn't mean much of anything, in particular Ohio State, who have famously made spending more on NIL than anyone else a cornerstone of their program. That OSU roster last year cost them over 20 million dollars. They recruited the #1 or #2 class three out of the last four years. They won the natty because they paid for it. In a sport that's now entirely about money, it makes, sadly, sense. If those schools up there have anything, it's money.

We're better offensively, and we're worse defensively. Last year's team had a championship defense, and so far Tennessee's too thin and too injured to show anything nearly as potent on the defensive side. If we had last year's D and this year's O, I'd feel fantastic. As it stands, I feel fine. Not great, not terrible. Good with room to improve.

I've seen far too much "we're just as good as Georgia, we'll get to Atlanta / we'll make the playoffs, etc." talk this week. That may be the case, but assuming it from one closely-contested loss at home is a bit much. If UT emerges from the other side of the Alabama game with 3 more wins, then I can buy it. But this year's Tennessee team has to show it can take advantage of the moments when they come.

We are not OSU and this is not the big 10. That being said I’m not saying it can’t be done but we still have Florida, bama, Oklahoma and don’t forget Vandy but first we got to beat State. Let’s take it 1 at a time

Offense is better. That's about it

We will drop a couple of more games at least. The defense is a definite step down from last year and our offense is better but more pressure will be put on it to win some games in shootouts because of our defense. I said 9-3 in the preseason and i’m sticking with that prediction. I don’t think we will beat Bama in Tuscaloosa and Florida or Oklahoma will get us.

I think at this point we are a better team. D is, at this point a step back, but we have a legit "all sec" QB...that's the difference.

If you have a QB + WRs, w/ even a slight step back on D, it give you a chance to beat everyone. LY, we were never going to out score any top shelf playoff teams. This year, if we hold serve and get our DBs back, with no apparent top 2-3 teams, there's no reason we can't be in the mix w/ our team. I mean it's at least possible that Vols run the table and we've got the best QB story in the country who finally wins the heisman...from 0 star to SEC Champs. No way we could say that a year ago or if we had Nico. We could also end up 9-3/8-4...but I like all of the competition...makes the SEC a ton more fun and interesting...no off weeks.

I am more worried about OK than I am about Bama...but about the same. OK will be home field so, advantage there. Bama hasn't shown that they can run the ball "at will" like UGA, and I don't think that any team will out score us on passing alone...our pass rush is too salty...UGA had the formula. OK a bit different b/c they have the QB skill and D like UGA, but am thinking home field will help us and OK can't assert their will in rushing attack.

I mean really the difference in this years defense and last years defense isn’t drastically different by the stats vs GA and this year went into OT. Heck our Defense was out there for over 50 min in the game Saturday and the penalties really hurt especially when GA really isn’t getting penalized but maybe 1 time a quarter.
