Per CBS Sports's Brandon Marcello.

All opponents will be revealed for every team's 2026 schedule.

Each team will have 3 permanent rivals will be referred to as "annual opponents". The "annual opponents" for each team will be reviewed every 4 years.

I don’t see why. Those are our three traditional rivals
Sort of a scheduling strength balancing thing when dealing with the schedules of the conference's historically top programs (Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Texas, Oklahoma) relative to those not-as-successful-programs (South Carolina, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky)

It's a consideration they took when first creating the divisions and permanent opponents in 1992 (and why, for example, Florida played LSU as its annual opponent while South Carolina played Arkansas and Mississippi State played Kentucky, rather than, say, LSU's permanent cross-divisional opponent being either South Carolina or Kentucky and Florida playing Mississippi State/Arkansas each year).

Though, honestly. at the end of the day, someone's (if not several teams') historical rivals are going to have to be effected or diminished to some degree to make a system like this work.

This is going to be interesting. How does Sankey and SEC office handle Bama? Do they get Auburn, Tennessee and LSU? Or does Ms St become one of their rivals?!?!
This was an entertaining debate on the Finebaum show a few weeks ago when the Bama homers were saying all the good teams are now Bama's rivals. Georgia and Texas were even mentioned.
Does Bama get the "good" teams or does Ms St and Vandy become annual opponents?!

I guess Vandy for tradion sake but man, we have to play Bama and Florida each year. I can see Georgia too, I guess but, those other two are our largest rivals.

After Tennessee and Auburn were the only teams in the conference to have to play Alabama, Georgia and Florida every year from 1992 to 2023, I don't even slightly care if other teams in the conference cry about having tougher annual opponents. Give us Bama, Vandy and Kentucky.

Alabama will at least be getting 2 of the good teams (Auburn plus either Tennessee or LSU...with a slightly higher chance towards it being Tennessee).
The real question is more about who the 3rd annual opponent be. Do they go the route of balancing all the teams' schedules and give Alabama someone like Mississippi State since they're already playing two of the top half/traditionally more successful conference programs? Or does ESPN and its desire for ratings win, and they get assigned LSU for the third opponents (since LSU-Alabama has recurringly garnered some of the best - sometimes even the best - television ratings for the conference over the last decade).

I guess. But if the people who complain about us getting Vandy and Kentucky each year never raised a peep about us having to play Alabama, Georgia, and Florida every year for the last 30 years then idc what they have to say

Believe it when I see it....imagine it would cause quite the uproar amongst the rest of the SEC (and rightfully so)
Why?

UT would get Alabama(slightly above Average)
UT would get Vandy(Very Good this year and back to sucking next year)
UT would get KY(Our gimme game)

Seems balanced to me
