There’s a lot of talk on here about Tennessee tradition, but most on here know little about that tradition. It seems some think Tennessee first started playing football in the 90s. How could anyone make a list of Tennessee coaches that doesn’t include Neyland and Barnhill?

Because I wasn’t alive. Mine came from coaches I actually followed while living.

Obviously, Neyland is everyone’s #1 if we’re just going by who was best.

Neyland has to be #1. He won 4 national championships and likely would have won more if he hadn’t been called away to serve our great nation.
2.Fulmer/Cutcliffe- I am grouping them together because if you look at Fulmer’s record with and without Cut there is a difference.
3. (Tie)Majors/Heupel- I couldn’t decide because Majors set Fulmer up for his run but Heup quickly brought us back from college football wasteland.

Least favorite?

4.Jones- aside from the corny catch phrases and the years after Dobbs left he actually won several games
3. Kiffin- look I get it, USC was your dream job but there has to be a better way of going about leaving
2.Dooley- I knew he was in over his head when he had to call a TO to get his 2 point D on the field in the Troy game
1.Pruitt- as bad as Dooley was he never had a 3-7 season. He just about destroyed the program

Y'all list some good 'uns. But there was also good ole Coach Cafego who usually our kicking game going like a rodeo roundup. Also, the recent Marvin West article on our Sugar Bowl beat-down of Miami reminds us that Ken Donahue had that year's defense squared away. 👍
