I think I've seen enough to know that if Aguilar ever goes down this season, MacIntyre needs to be the guy. Merk is a dumpling. Soft and bland and he should be making the same throws in the same offense as Aguilar against a terrible team like UAB. We went from operating on all cylinders to stalling on the highway with our emergency blinkers on 🙄

Come on, dude this is your interview for the staring role and you're blowing it!

Agree. He just doesnt have “it”. Looks confused, unsure, and hesitant. All things that lead to being a bad qb.

He’s Will Levis minus the mayonnaise and body building. You can tell he’s frantic when he drops back. The game doesn’t slow down for him. He refuses to throw the ball out of bounds and throws too late to the receivers. He does have a good arm though. Sucks that the d can’t get off the field to give GMac a shot.

I blame Merk and Dilfer playing his starters against our 3rd stringers for us not covering

GMac would have scored at least two tds

IMO Tennessee should INSIST on it.

we should not at all be worried about burning GMac's red shirt with FB coming in.
It’s not about that it’s about him being woefully undersized. But we’re not winning if Merk has to play significant time against a quality opponent

Some of us know that Gmac was better than Merk when he stepped on campus

Disagree, hooker couldn’t throw a touchdown with this supporting cast. Real easy to say he sucks when nobody gets open. I’d rather him hold it than throw it to the other guy. Most of the names out there I didn’t know where on the team and I keep up with recruiting and all things vols.

So now we are judging a back up Qb playing behind a 2nd and 3rd string o-line against the other teams starters??? G-Mac would not have done any better today with the pressure UAB was getting on Merk and the bigger concern should be the lack of blocking by the back-ups in the scenario one of our starting o-linemen goes down.

When has any recruited QB ever come out looking like a gunslinger in their first couple of years?

I mean. Just. Let's face it. The three best QBs at UT - Hooker, Milton, and now Aguilar, were all transfer upperclassmen. Milton, of the three, had been here the longest, but he wasn't the "guy" until his fifth year. Nico never looked like the guy, and Merklinger seems like he's struggling to run the system as well.

Makes me wonder if even Macintyre will look like the guy when it's his chance to step up. I certainly hope so. But more to the point, I hope Merklinger looks more in command next year since he'll have been here three years now. I hope.
