15th D of 16 in SEC

Very similar to ‘22. However we HOPEFULLY have 2 starting DL and 1 starting CB coming back to help.

I think a lot of our success on D will come down to McCoy returning. The rumors are he may not come back and just prepare for the NFL, but AP mentioned he would be interested if we have something to play for, which we do currently.

If we can take care of business and win out until Bama then I’m hoping we get to see him in orange the rest of the year from there.

Tennessee's offense scores so quick and isn't on the field very long at all, so the opposing offenses get a lot more snaps against our D when compared to other teams. Just something to keep in mind.
Exactly, we are going way faster than we did last season on Offense. Our Run D and Pass Rush is stout. Our glaring issue is CB.

Where are we ranked on a per play basis? That's the number you gotta look at. I would estimate our opponents are averaging and extra 2 possessions per game minimum due to how quick we score. That's naturally going to create more yardage.

We've also played almost every backup and walk on in 2 of 4 games this season. Stats don't really tell the full story in this case, IMO. If we'd left the starters in against ETSU and UAB these stats would look much better but I think getting the other players on our team some game reps is much more important than trying to please stat gazers.

And yet we've looked better against Georgia than any Heupel team and looked good against our gimmes too, one of which just dominated Clemson in Howard's House of Rock. If we get some key players back at the right time and the defense can improve marginally here and there as a result, this will be our best team in 20 years or more by a significant margin.

TL;DR: I ain't worried! Concerned, maybe, but not worried.
