Bruce Pearl To Retire from Auburn

Sounds like he’s running for the Senate if this is happening. Going to be really interested to see how Nepo-Baby Steven performs this year how that daddy isn’t there to help him with his career.
That’s exactly why he’s doing this. Tuberville is vacating the seat to run for governor and Pearl wants to take his place.

I’m taking the wait and see approach, I’m sure Steven knows basketball, but he will never be the motivator that his dad is. If I could pick one coach to motivate a team before a big game it would be Bruce. I really hate to see him step down.

I find this trend of coaches retiring right before the season starts to force the university to give their preferred assistant a shot at the job pretty nauseating to be honest. Not that I care that much here because this will be hilarious.

I'm sure this was extremely by design for Pearl; it's the only way Nepo Stevey is getting a HC job of this magnitude.

I don't have really hate Auburn but I'm going to laugh if they go back to being a meh basketball school.

I mostly agree, though I believe this has been the plan for a couple years, now, since his last contract. Which means it wouldn't really matter when he retired.

I think Auburn promised Bruce in private to make Steven head coach in waiting to convince him to say no to Louisville.

I think this is going to be a hot mess.

I don’t disagree, but for what BP did for Auburn basketball I think he’s earned the right to name his successor.

The timing (which makes sense, given the potential Senate run) of this is really fascinating to me. That said, I'm not nearly as low on Steven Pearl as you guys are. Not necessarily saying that he's going to be Coach K or even Bruce, but he has a fair bit of upside and seems to resonate well with players/recruits.

100% he did. And I'm sure they said yes but privately I bet they want to hurry up and have him crash and burn so they can get a real basketball coach.

Or go back to basketball being an afterthought.

Does it also lock in players and take away their transfer and commitment options?
