Aguilar and interceptions

one of the big concerns about Aguilar when UT picked him up was the interceptions. it was my primary concern headed into the season. but I'm here to say that (at least so far this year) all of his interceptions have been squarely the fault of the receivers bobbling the ball into the air. a pass that was on target but got muffed by the receivers.


I really wish that football didn't count those as interceptions but errors just like MLB doesn't count a run against the pitcher of the defence screws up.

so far IMO Aguilar is "pretty clean" passing.

Agreed, perhaps a couple today were a tad high but very catchable to say the least.

Was an uncharacteristic day for Kitselman

Every now and then he uncorks a real "no no no don't throw that," and some of the passes are underthrown ... but many other throws of his are "WOW what a throw." And to top it off he can move both inside and outside the pocket.

Gotta take the good with the not-always-as-good as part of the deal. And if that deal's helped you reach 4-1 with the loss being a wafer-thin whiff against Georgia, I think anyone would be okay taking that.

we have a QB who can put the ball where it needs to be. sometimes the receivers make circus catches and sometimes they bobble a catchable ball. from what I've seen so far any offensive failures have to be blamed on balls that should have been caught and were not.

He throws it high a little sometimes. Puts some mustard on some of those passes he needs to take a little off of.. That was the knock on him , he's a gun slinger probably have too live with it.

TBH I haven't seen him throw an interception where I was like damn that was a bad throw. they all had something to do with the receiver.

I’m 100% a JA fan. Today he did throw some balls he shouldn’t have though. It’s easy to say the receiver touched it so he should have caught it, but that’s not always the full picture. He threw into traffic some today when he shouldn’t have. He shares those INT numbers with the receivers today.

throwing into traffic doesn't matter if you're capable of hitting your receivers in the hands. LOADS of NFL QBs do this and they have receivers who can catch them. if the ball is on point throwing into traffic doesn't matter

Well I guess I'm alone on this subject and this isn't meant to be maligning or disparaging but as I see it 70% of his passes short to intermediate passes are too high.

I’ve said for years that football stats should be more like baseball stats. Baseball stats are so subjective, left up to interpretation, but that’s the way it should be. When the receiver makes a mistake that leads to an interception, it shouldn’t be a negative stat towards the QB. It should be counted as a “turnover” for the WR.

Aguilar has been unluckier than any UT qb I can remember wrt interceptions. Three passes that deflected high in the air off of UT receivers, an interception on a slant throw which would have been a well timed strike to Staley had he not slipped, and then the pass down the sidelines to Mathews. The Mathews pick was the only one that was questionable from a decision standpoint as there was safety help. It was also on third down and was effectively a 40 yard punt.

He could lower a them a little. Those are 100% easier to be deflected off the hands but this is mostly true that they all made hand contact that I remember.

Nah, his throwing high and, maybe hard at close range, caused those int’s. He’s been throwing high all season.

i’m unbothered. he’s playing GREAT football. i don’t understand how any tennessee fan can’t see that after what we experienced the previous two years

Those balls were both a bit high, but they could have been caught. I just hope they catch them when it's the Tide and the Sooners out there. But they need to be focused against everyone. There aren't any cupcakes in the SEC.
