Joey Aguilar has looked spectacular for the VOLS this year. The few interceptions that he has thrown have NOT been his fault. He’s not throwing the ball too hard. He’s not throwing (unreasonably) into traffic. He’s not over-throwing his receivers by a mile. And He’s not throwing behind them, either. The INT’s have all been from tipped, perfectly catchable balls or the receivers stopping (or falling down) on their routes.

First and foremost, let me start off with saying I’m sure glad we have JA instead of the one we had last year. With that being said, JA has been and still
Is throwing a lot of high passes. I get it and agree, if it touches your hands you should catch it. But bring them down a little so the receivers can catch the ball and bring it into their bodies.

One of the passes to Kitselman went through his hands, hit his helmet and bounced up into the air (then intercepted). It wasn't high. It wasn't tipped

Hot and high over the middle will get us into trouble and it did yesterday a couple of times. It also saved us on 4th down. Aguilar seems to have times where he cools down, his fundamentals breakdown and he’s thinking too much. The staff needs to figure out that lull.

Well, I haven't seen the game yet, so I don't know if this was a sit down route, but if not, the pass is above his head and it's not meeting him in stride. So from the picture, it appears the pass was high and behind him. Should have made the catch, but the pass could have been better. Would love to have every pass that hits a receivers hands be caught, but we have to live in reality so....

This seems like something that can be relatively fixed. The fact that twice they became turnovers yesterday should suggest it’s a major exercise during practice moving forward.

Kitselman is the most unathletic TE Heup has put on the field in his tenure. He plays hard, is a good leader, and I don’t doubt effort. But he looks like a stiff undersized lineman trying to play TE and just flat out doesn’t have the pass catching capabilities we consistently need at TE.

What the picture doesn't show is the determining factor - that was a fastball way up high. Try catching a hard thrown ball that close to the receiver and elevated that high - almost a miracle to bring it in. Thank you. This picture just proved everyone's point.

Really? I think yesterday was the only off game he's had at UT. He usually catches everything. He made a tough catch yesterday

If the kid has a 4-1 TD-INT ratio, he’s improved and we win.

However, he throws late or doesn’t have the arm strength for most deep balls and, is high and maybe just slightly behind the WR. However, placement of the defenders may have something to do with the latter.

Maybe so but take a look at the int that bounced off him and his right arm is being pulled. Blatant PI

He just looks stiff and unathletic to me. If he’s not going to be a threat with ball in his hands then IMO he needs to at least come down with everything that comes his way.

Agree with this.

Aguilar has been far better than Nico. We lose this game with Nico and we get blown out by Georgia with him.

That said, Aguilar does have a tendency to overthrow at times and he also threw into heavy traffic way too often this game. IMO this was his worst game by far - but we still won. Give him credit - he's resilient AF!

But he has a lot of stuff to review on film this week. A lot of those "dropped passes" were just either not well placed or they shouldn't have been thrown at all. Sure, WRs should've brought those 2 INTs down, but it's not 100% on them; you're taking a risk when you throw a bullet into a throng of 4-5 defenders like that. Felt like Joey took too much unnecessary risks in this game and he got lucky a few other passes weren't picked.

Even with his mistakes, though, he has such a better feel for the game than Nico. We lucked up getting him.

Agree but it happens. People act like other teams don’t have it happen to them. MSU WR dropped a wide open bomb. Both UGA and Alabama had drops yesterday. Players are not perfect, it happens. Players make mistakes, the problem is drops stick out. Linemen miss blocks and most people don’t notice, QBs don’t see open receivers and most people don’t notice, defenders miss tackles. It’s all part of football.

If every player was perfect would the score be 0-0 or 100-100?

Kitselman has butter fingers. He's made some nice plays but he's also been a huge liability at times. Matthews dropping a sure touchdown. The entire receiving corps needs to have some gut check discussions over the nearly next 2 weeks. This seems elementary, but they need to spend a lot of time just playing throw and catch. A lot of the drops have been inexcusable

Joey would have been well over 400 yard without the drops. #14 was a liability yesterday. He made up for some of it with the 4th down catch and effort to get the First Down. Is Boo still acting up? He is a difference maker when he is in the field.

I agree I am glad we have JA because with the other guy we are 2-2 right now. With that being said we saw yesterday why he had so many INT’s last year. He is lucky it was only 2 yesterday it could have easily been 4-5 with some of the throws he was making.

I still think we can be 10-2 if we clean up some of the mistakes and get healthy on defense.
