I just don't see the logic in this. What are you going to do? Hire Kevin Steele and try to install a defense in a week and hope firing their entire staff doesn't make the D just lay down or transfer out?

According to a report from Pete Thamel, Arkansas interim head coach Bobby Petrino has dismissed three key defensive assistant coaches. The Razorbacks are moving on from defensive coordinator Travis Williams, co-defensive coordinator Marcus Woodson and defensive line coach Deke Adams.

Williams, the former defensive coordinator, was highly acclaimed before being dismissed. The former Auburn linebacker and one-year NFL player was a Broyles Award nominee in 2023 and 2024, given to the best assistant coach in college football.

No chance they can install a new defense in less than 2 weeks. And I’m sure the defense is real pleased that most of their coaches have been fired. Most of them are probably already filling out their transfer papers. I’ll be shocked if we don’t put up 50 on them.

Coach Heupel has already talked to the team and told them I am driving from New Jersey for my first trip to Tennessee. The team said there is no way Arkansas will win and they are laser focused on winning this game for me.

I had to think about it, but it makes sense. This season is in the dumps, and they probably are thinking why wait until the off season to start installing the defense they want. They have the chance to get the new staff in place and to have meaningful, real game reps for our players, so that there is no drop off next year.

That might not be a horrible strategy. Our opponents have converted 8 out of 12 4th down attempts so far.
