In before the “let’s just focus on this year” crowd but it’s worth asking:
Can JA come back to the Vols and play next year? Wasn’t Pavia’s case based on eligibility since he also played at junior college before moving to a Power 4 program?

No he won’t be back and honestly it’s better if he isn’t. We need Merk or GMac to take the helm and show vast development.
I would welcome him back. Competition at QB is always a good thing. Would we be able to keep all 4? Nope, but there is going to be an odd man out next year anyway.

The answer is yes, if Pavia wins, he will have another year of eligibility. Pavia is suing on the basis that JUCO time shouldn't take away from the time a player can earn money playing Div 1/FBS football. The NCAA doesn't control JUCO or have anything to do with it. JUCO football isn't NCAA football so they are arguing it shouldn't affect your time playing D1. The NCAA quickly did the waiver because they lose in court constantly.

Yeah, it's "honestly better" if we don't bring back the QB leading the best offense in this program's history.

To answer the OP: The Pavia ruling was for this year, but that doesn't mean JA can't bring his own suit at the end of this year.

Brandon will start - GMAC will not gain enough weight to take SEC hits
So how many hits has Joey taken this year? GMAC is not brittle and plenty slender QBs have played SEC ball. I have followed SEC since the late 60’s and have no memory of fatalities or broken bones caused by QBs getting sacked or tackled. Enlighten me.

Well yes & no on the case. I believe the court will rule for the NCAA...jmo

The case isn’t over. Far from it. Campbell granted Pavia’s request for a preliminary injunction, saying he should be allowed to keep playing while the case made its way through the court system. The NCAA responded by appealing the ruling and then granting a waiver to permit athletes with the same circumstances as Pavia to also compete this season. An appellate court has yet to rule on the appeal.

How do you convince a portal QB to come here and not play?
For one, there are always plenty of portal QBs that are looking for a chance to compete. Steve Angeli is the prime example of this. He is someone we looked at and ultimately passed on, but is the sort of QB you target. An upper classmen with a little experience who is looking for a chance to compete for the starting role. With there being no more spring portal, these guys are basically tied to to the school after transferring.
