I was looking at the schedule for this week. Tenn needs a big statement win regardless, but there could potentially be several teams ranked ahead of them that could lose:
3 Oregon vs 7 Indiana - Oregon likely wouldnt drop below Tenn but I could see Tenn jumping Indiana with a strong showing.
6 Oklahoma @ Texas - with Mateer out, who knows how this game goes.
5 A&M vs Florida - could the Gators have turned a corner? Is A&M for real?
10 Georgia @ Auburn - a stretch for sure, but Auburn has a good defense and its a rivalry so it's still a dangerous game.
S Carolina @ 11 LSU - SC is going to get someone and LSU has been exposed.
9 Texas Tech vs Kansas - Should be a good game
1 OSU @ 17 Illinois - unlikely but I'm not completely counting out the fighting Bielemas on the season.
I know, the AP doesnt technically count and "just win" and it'll take care of itself. However, this could be a heck of a weekend of games coming up and you know there will be upsets. Hopefully Tenn isnt one of them!

Every week, it seems, there are great "impact" games. Lane Kiffin said it right this week. Going to 9 game SEC slate, there will be some really good 7-5 teams...but I absolutely love that every Saturday has a gauntlet of great matchups...even if it means having to mildly adjust to the mindset that a 9-3 season in SEC will be a great resume, which probably lands you in playoffs.

Let’s just beat Arkansas.

Rankings are pointless this early.
Not entirely.
While teams dont have to overcome low preseason rankings anymore, the playoff rankings will be out before long. The narrative on some of these teams need to be set. I think all of these rankings influence the committee a little.
The point is just to highlight all of these teams who are currently competing with Tenn for a playoff spot could be on upset alert this weekend. Its better that Tenn be perceived by everyone as high as possible so if they lose a close one to Bama they dont fall far.
Tenn has a weaker schedule than many. We need these teams to lose! Lol

Don't worry about Osu. Illinois MAY score .

Agree. If Indiana gets beaten badly we should jump them. Close one means we might not. Florida can beat A&M but I doubt it. If Indiana gets beaten badly and LSU somehow loses, we could creep into the top 10. Would be nice for Bama game to be a top 10 matchup.

It doesn't matter where Tenn is ranked going to Tuscaloosa, just where they are ranked when they leave.

With Bama and Florida both being on the road, every home game is a must win. We have got to beat Arkansas, OU, and Vandy. If we can split the road trips at Bama and Florida and win out at home that should be enough to get us in the playoffs.

I think A&M might be the best team in the SEC at this point. I think they handle Florida at home. Lagway has to prove that he can play on the road.

Could be a bounce back game for Texas, but I doubt it. They're just so mediocre. Maybe their defense shows up in this one.

Auburn has been feisty, but just hasn't been able to get it done. Maybe a little jordan-hare magic happens.

LSU is very vulnerable. USCe is probably due for one. Sellers should be healthy for this one, and that makes a big difference.

Penn St was a fraud. Osu isn't. Top Defense in the Country. Just watch the game. Thanks + (Illinois doesn't have a Nico)
Penn state being a fraud doesnt take away from that being the biggest upset in decades. I'd be shocked if Illinois beat them, but as wild as things have been... the point was just to include them in "everyone above Tenn has a big game this weekend, even OSU."

I just can't invest much energy into all the scenarios at this point in the season. We ultimately have to take care of business in Neyland, then go beat Bama or Florida on the road

Ohio State is the best team in the BIG with Oregon being the only threat. . They will handle ILL. 30-13. ILL already got exposed by Indy.

They pulled the same trick against the Vols in 1992. They fired their coach a week before and came to Neyland and beat us.
Arkie has always been trouble for UT. Almost in 98, if not for an answered prayer, and then in 99. Then last year, kept Tenn from a home playoff game. And the Vols are thinking about bama some too??

Agree!
UGA -3.5 & BAMA -2.5 are intriguing bets. It is tough to win on the road
