I didn't know if this was appropriate for NCAA or our own Vols forums. Yet here it is I took this past weekend to get up and explore the Marshall campus from the crash site to memorials, Graves etc... and then catch a game. First off everyone there was so welcoming of me and curious what brought a Tennessee Volunteer to Huntington WV? They were all super kind and RAVED about how they were treated the couple times in their time of visiting Neyland going as far as saying we have great fans. So good on you all for treating these people that way. I also joked is it OK to ask how they feel about us stealing their Women's basketball coach? They said they understood she (Kim Caldwell) couldn't pass up a job like that and we are lucky to have her.

Now for the surprising part. The athletic director goes on field and I cant believe my eyes. Its the same guy who used to hold Coach Phillip Fulmers headset wires so as not to get tangled up or trip on them. Gerald Harrison.

Also of note the tailgaters there were so nice. Not one person I talked to was rude and they even asked me to take food for the ride home. I literally have decided my second favorite team is Marshall university after our Tennessee Vols!

We are.... Marshall!

Sad memories for that tragedy. Same for Kent State.

LOVE that you are rocking the Old School VOLS hat !!!
Beautiful campus with a TON of tradition.
Penn State claims it, but I believe Marshall was doing it LONG before the Nitts - WE ARE....MARSHALL !!!

Side note, there was a movie made not long ago about the plane crash with Matthew McConaughey.
Great film and from all accounts very accurate...recommended required viewing for any college football fan.

I’ll always remember seeing that news bulletin roll across the TV screen that rainy Saturday evening. Just the thought was horrifying. A entire team lost.

The people of Marshall did the right thing not letting that take over their school. The greatest compliment to those lives was Marshall coming back even better. The movie at the end always gets me.

One man I talked to said he was a freshman and had a Physical Education class of about 50 students and it was mostly the football players all in there. The day this happened his friend ran in dorm room and said a plane crashed near the airport it might be the football team. Of course it was. The sad part was the guy explaining that from then on his PE class being less than 20 from then on because it wiped out the football players.

I knew Gerald when he was at UT. Great guy and always gracious. He handled a lot of small details for Fulmer besides holding the cord. He was AD at Austin Peay before taking Marshall gig.
