How many times have we been “handed” a win?

Similar to the other thread where the OP asks if we have benefited from a bad call. How many times can you recall over the years when we were “handed” a win on a silver platter when we had no business winning? Have there been games where the other team had us beat, but a last minute turnover, coaching blunder, mental breakdown, terrible call by a ref and so on allowed us to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It seems like we have been on the losing side of these kind of games, especially against Florida (2 Hail Marys with Butch, Gaffney, and many more). Certainly the Dobbs Hail Mary at GA and the Stoener fumble would be examples. Maybe the 98 chip shot Florida Miss?

Vanderbilt and Kentucky have handed us a lot. Georgia in 2015, guy dropped a wide open deep ball that could have won it and they lost an 18 point lead. Florida lost a 3 score lead in 2016. South Carolina was up 14 with 2 minutes left and lost to us in 2014. Jahmyr Gibbs dropped a first down on Bama’s last drive in 22 that would have allowed them to run more clock down and have a closer field goal attempt. LSU lost a huge lead in 05. In 04 Jonathan Wade slapped Dallas Baker in front of a ref, wasn’t called. He called Baker’s retaliation though, and that was 15 pivotal yards on the final drive.

There are more. Thing is, when your team loses you focus more where they went wrong. When they win, particularly against good teams, you focus more on what they did right.

While it was a pathetic season all around, how UT pulled out that seasoning opening game vs GT in 2017 is beyond me.

Killing uss the entire game but in the last few minutes of the game the ball bounced out way and we won

You could say the same about the bowl game vs Indiana in 2019. We had no business winning that game.

For some reason (and I was at every home game that year), I never truly felt we were going to lose that game. It wasn't like FL had the game won and just bellied up.

The Arkansas/Stoerner fumble was a different story. We were beaten down from the get-go, and even when we started to claw back it didn't seem like we had enough time to close the gap. When we went TOD with 2 mins left in the game, the game was OVER! No way should Ark have lost. That was the biggest "handed" win I've ever seen for the Vols.

The '91 "Miracle at South Bend" might be a close second. We were down 31-7 with less than a minute to play in the first half. The blocked FG returned for a TD started the miracle comeback and only a missed chip shot FG by ND's replacement kicker sealed the gifted victory.

The 1981 10-7 victory over Auburn. After Auburn called their last time out on our 4 yard line and just a few seconds left, Pat Dye decided they would run one more play instead of kicking a field goal. The Auburn QB fumbled and recovered, but time expired before their QB even stood up from recovering his fumble.

You don't remember us dropping a ball in our own backfield for an easy Alabama score in 2022? Of course not. Mentioning the 2016 Florida game is crazy. Overcoming a deficit isn't a gift

I’m worried about OPs mental health. First he makes a thread about all the calls that should have went against us. Now about all the games we didn’t deserve to win.
