Our defense is a “Field of Dreams” according to Bama WR

Yeah well... Last week's trash talk didn't motivate them to do much about it. I doubt this does either. Guy is right. That is a mismatch in this game. We give too much cushion and don't play the ball, seems like they just kind of go sit in a spot , some of that Tim Banks & Willy magic.. Hood is the only DB that is playing decent. Linebackers can't cover anyone either. Whole unit has really underperformed this year. I expected a dropoff, but not this much of one.

Is he wrong? The Arkansas WRs were doing routes vs air for half the game.

Year number five under a supposed “good” DC shouldn’t be this bad regardless of losing two starting cornerbacks. It just shouldn’t barring several catastrophic injuries to multiple position groups. There is absolutely no excuse for how lost and misaligned they look in a zone defense at this level. They look like a high school secondary and linebacking group in basic pass coverage without even addressing how poorly they have looked at times in run defense.

Corners aren’t the major problem.

They have definitively look bad and given up tons of yardage but I would love to have had a healthy McCoy and Jakobe Thomas when we started the season…Hood was a great pickup and he might have beaten out Gibson for the starting job but regardless, having McCoy would have eased the pain of losing Gibson. But the Safety position is more of a problem IMO…we don’t have an alpha dog back there.

We need to pick up some stud safeties in the portal since we keep missing out on the HS blue chips

I just don't know with this defense. It's has never jelled. I don't know if it was all the injuries to start with or what. It appears we have the talent, but there is always a bust with someone out of position (giving up 3rd and longs like crazy). I am hopeful they that will come together and start playing the way we expected them to at the start of the year. If they do, the bama game is very winnable, but it sure is getting late in the year.

I feel really good about this game for some reason.
I think yall matchup well. Bama is susceptible to the run and to explosive plays. Pressure is about the only thing that limits Simpson, and getting them behind the sticks with negative plays could be a great way to defend them. I haven’t look at the matchups that closely to make a pick (and Bama has some very corners, which may be a problem), but I think yall will get yours on Saturday.

I know I and some others have said this but I think Boo would have been great at Safety but I get why he's playing Star.

The coaches are in control of this switch. They have turned on the prevent defense, try to get some tackles for loss, keep everything in front of you defensive scheme in support of the secondary. They can flip that switch back anytime they want and leave it up to the players execution. The secondary has had 7 weeks to get ready, it's time to stand on your own. Free the defense!
