I have not played this video but heard Brooks on one of the National College Football talk shows on Sirius XM this morning going on and on about Ty Simpson having the best mechanics, decision making etc of any QB in the country. Best QB he has seen all year on film even over Baylor's Sawyer.CliffsNotes?
Something happened with the kid all of a sudden. He's always struggled for his spot in the QB room. Looked awful first game or two this year then went nuclear.I have not played this video but heard Brooks on one of the National College Football talk shows on Sirius XM this morning going on and on about Ty Simpson having the best mechanics, decision making etc of any QB in the country. Y'all watch and you can see our terrible LB play and safety play.

I thought Spillman got suspended for 1st half bc of targeting in Ark game?To be fair, Arion Carter still leads the SEC in tackles I believe, and does a good job. Nobody is perfect but he is playing at an All SEC level and will be drafted in the middle rounds IMO. The other LBs are a liability in pass coverage and sometimes against the run. Spillman got hurt Saturday and thats gonna be a problem if he can't go against Bama...he is LB3. By a wide margin over the other LBs behind him because they are inexperienced. The Safeties have been bad all year and are THE Achilles heel of our team. By far the weakest position on our team and it isnt close. Bad angles, poor coverage, you name it. Boo Carter at Nickel has been a liability in every game except MSU, he did force 2 fumbles vs ETSU but also fumbled a punt and got beat vs the run and the pass especially on 3rd down. He has all the skill in the world but is still very green.
Cliffs notes: our defense simply doesnt have the DBs to play Man coverage like we did vs UGA. Which is why we played Zone defense almost the entire game vs Arkansas and it worked. With the freshman Redmond starting at 1 Corner and both Safeties/Boo being liabilities in coverage the best we can do on defense is to "keep everything in front of us" and make teams put together 10+ play drives in order to score a TD. That gives our Dline...which is BY FAR the best unit on defense...10 tries to get a sack, TFL, or force a fumble to stop the other team from scoring. We have been doing this most of the time since UGA, and its the best we can do on defense. This is why we lead the SEC in sacks and TFLs last I saw. Our Dline is really good and the strength of our defense, so we rely on them to stop drives. Brooks illustrates this in a dozen different ways and praises our Dline repeatedly while showing where and how everyone else is struggling except Arion Carter and Hood.
At the time, no one knew how much we would miss Jakobe Thomas. I never knew how important safeties were to our run support until this year. 2 is a liability....To be fair, Arion Carter still leads the SEC in tackles I believe, and does a good job. Apart from DL, our two most talented defensive players are A and B Carter. From the film, B is either unprepared, confused, or mentally undisciplined against Arky. I hope the young man can put it all together because he is immensely talented. We all witness those plays where he is in the right position at the right time and he brings his athleticism to the opposing player. Those moments make you take notice. If he could increase those moments a handful more times per game, I think it would make a tremendous difference.2

Absolute liabilities on the field. Willing to give 15 a pass since he's a RS Frosh, but I can't believe we cannot find someone better than 2 & 22. If Boo had been here all spring/summer, he might have been the starting safety.
So what has changed since UGA? Was Stockton SO bad that we could play man coverage? I don't think that is the case, IMO. UGA still has weapons. I'd play man until they prove they can beat us with an explosive play. 7 games in... Redmond and Hood should know what to expect. Our zone D is absolutely atrocious. To be fair, Arion Carter still leads the SEC in tackles I believe, and does a good job.
