Tennessee’s biggest problem on defense isn’t just scheme, it’s recruiting.

Tim Banks continues to fall behind every major SEC defensive coordinator in landing and keeping elite talent. The numbers don’t lie. His lack of recruiting has stagnated and the staff’s footprint is shrinking instead of expanding.

Banks isn’t pulling blue-chip defenders, he’s not winning head-to-head battles against Alabama, Georgia, or even equal competition, and the few commits UT does get on defense rarely move the national ranking needle. With the lack of on field improvement, perception matters and right now top prospects don’t see Tennessee’s defense as a place that builds NFL stars.

If this trend continues, no scheme or effort on Saturdays will matter. Recruiting is the lifeblood of the program, and until Tennessee upgrades its defensive recruiting leadership, they’ll keep falling behind the SEC elite.

Banks' problem is not his recruiting... it's his playbook

Actually it’s ALLEGED that it’s his strategy to not spend huge resources at the safety position because he thinks the money is better spent elsewhere. We consistently get killed in the middle. It may actually be his recruiting and the playbook.
