Nick Saban goes to LSU. Wins natty his 4th season and goes to the PROS a year later.

Tony V goes to TN. Wins natty his 7th season and goes to the PROS a year later.

LSU hires Les Miles. Wins natty his 3rd season. But after that he starts to slip.

Tennessee hires? --(fill in blank) Wins natty his (fill in blank) season.

Nick Saban comes back to college and dominates college football and wins multiple nattys.

Tony V comes back to college and (fill in blank)?

As an LSU fan, this metaphor is more broadly applicable than to just Tony and Saban. Todd Raleigh is essentially Curley Hallman. Dave Serrano came in at a total low point and brought back some respectability but couldn't get it to the next level, like Gerry Dinardo. But he laid a decent enough foundation to be built on by the next guy, Tony/Saban.

Edited to add: This isn't the first time I've thought of this.

Why do we immediately assume that Tony will immediately slink back to college if he fails? That's not how he's built.... if anything it would motivate him to try harder to be successful in pro ball. Could see him taking a bench coach role for a few years, then trying his hand at managing in MLB again.

I could very well be wrong, but if Tony was as fed up with NIL/portal/DSA stuff as some are letting on, I don't think he's ever coming back to coach college baseball

This comparison has occurred to me as well. However, if it played out exactly like that it would mean we would have a 2nd natty, which wouldn't be bad, especially as difficult as it is and how much luck you have to have to win a baseball natty in the first place. Tony V could have easily coached here for another decade and never won another one.
