Bowl game

I’d be perfectly fine if every non-playoff bowl game disappeared. Sports are great when there’s great drama. Games that don’t matter have none.

I watch every bowl game that Tennessee plays, but mostly to get a look at some younger players that may not have played much.

For P4 teams used to success, bowl games are now the NIT of college football. And no one puts that “Participation Bowl” trophy in their case.

At this point, it’s all about getting a head start on 2026. Find the players now.

And the coaches.

Its doesnt matter. Bowls are glorified spring games now anyway. This is a playoff sport now. If you dont make the playoffs, it is an unsuccessful season.

This.........you know half the guys are going to opt out and get ready for the NFL. Just a plus to have a game situation and practices for the youngsters. Bowls will stay around for the $$$...........just like everything else that's happened with CFB, all about the $$$.

McCoy has already opted out, the only others that may opt out are Brazzell and Heard. No other senior is rated high enough to opt out. Josephs stock has fallen, he hasn't done squat in SEC play. Hood may also opt out but he is a R-Soph.

Frankly, a bowl game is useless. I know some people say its good for development of younger players , blah, blah, its to the point that any olayer who has a shot at being drafted will sit out. If they dont sit out physically, they will do so mentally,

Before anyone goes off the deep end, this applies go most programs who dont make the playoffs, not just UT.

The non playoff bowls will evolve into a quasi NIT basketball atmosphere, if they haven’t already.

I would be more interested if they move the minor bowl games to the spring and have a spring bowl scrimmage against another conference team that you don’t play typically. If you are concerned about player development, it would seem you would get more out of this type of game vs a few weeks after the season when most players are worn out and checked out.

Exactly right. Bowls are only important for extra practices for the young guys. (For the ones that stick around anyway.) Other than that, nobody cares. That’s the result of the playoff system. When you’re eliminated, the season’s over.
