Special teams has lost us two games now. Ranked last in SEC and 117th in the nation in special teams play. Zero creativity. Zero impact.

Last night:
We missed a medium range field goal.
We gave up 3 50+ yard FG and a 4th FG and a dropped punt snap with absolutely zero pressure - zero.
We can’t return a kickoff to the 25.
We can’t catch punts.
We couldn’t convert either onsides kick.

Defense actually played really well last night until West and Joseph’s were injured.

Joey had his worst game as a Vol.

We’re a couple special teams plays away from being 8-1 and top 5. Maybe chill on the fire Josh Heupel chatter. We were projected 8.5 wins this year.

Add some fuel to the fire here. Yahoo has an article on their MAIN page right now regarding the OU kicker and his pants that was called out by Herbstreet. Herbstreet's "Daisy Dukes" comments are getting a lot of attention. The article says his uniform was a violation of the rules and should have been called. He would have to sit out the play. Completely missed by the refs.
He basically was getting to kick in shorts opposed to the required pant below the knee with padding.

To play devils advocate to my own post, special teams performance is heavily related to depth. And with the scholarship limitations, player turn over, and injuries this year, roster depth is obviously an area of weakness. It’s hard to hide lack of depth through a whole season.

Yeah the OU kicker was getting on my nerves. Should of just smashed him and got a 15 yarder just for the cockiness and looking like he'd marinate one.

why does Tennessee continuously fair catch the kickoff, put a speedy guy with some shakes and you have a great opportunity as an open field runner. I believe we are missing an opportunity here - Peyton Lewis is fast but not shifty. I think we returned one kick last night and Lewis just runs into the middle of the pack. I’m sure it was designed to return middle but put someone who is elusive returning kickoffs. I am just a bleachers coach I guess, but think we are missing opportunities with all the fair catches.
