Basic fundamentals are taught to players in Pee Wee and junior high. If you are a lineman it's critical you do your part to protect the quarterback on a pass play - you have to stay in front of your man and block. If he moves to the side in an attempt to go around you move your feet to stay in front of him and continue to block him to impede his progress. Don't stand there with no effort and watch him hit your quarterback which causes a fumble. If you are running beside a ball carrier and he has the ball, instead of pulling on his left arm as you both are running down the field, just dive in front of him clipping his feet out from under him. If you are on a pass route you must assume the pass is coming to you. Turn your head and look for the ball at the earliest possible moment. All of this is basic stuff little fellows learn. What we saw saturday I must ask - why are these guys trying to play college football and why are they even allowed to suit up at Tennessee to try and play at this level?? Why?? This is more than frustrating. What makes it even worse is they learned this stuff a decade ago but act like it is their first game on the field. Why??

Many of today's coaches are great recruiters, and they leave the coaching to the position coach. The head coach MUST have a good rapport with recruits, be a people person, good communicator, demand discipline, and be willing to fire position coaches (who are personal friends for life if they do not show positive results)! Strictly personal opinion. They must be willing to accept all blame, for poor performance as well a praise for their teams outstanding performance.
