Never coming back to Neyland

I made this account to partly share my frustrations. I’ve been a huge vol fan my whole life. I grew up going to the games. I graduated from there. I finally got the opportunity to take my wife to a game in Neyland this last Saturday and I was so excited for her to experience it for the first time.

Leading up to the game everything was fairly normal until we actually got in the stadium. We had pretty decent seats in the lower bowl behind the Tennessee bench (but not the premiums). We had an older couple behind us (likely mid 60’s) arguing the whole game and cussing at each other. Fairly annoying but we ignored it. Big game.. Night game.. people drink.. whatever.

Before halftime we both felt this rush of fluid on our back. We turn around and the older woman is throwing up all over us and into a bag. It gets all on our jackets and clothes. all on our seats. Instead of the “wtf” we try to be nice. It happens, we go to the bathrooms and clean off best we can. We tell the stadium personnel that throw up is all on our seats we need it cleaned or can we find another seat. They essentially laughed at us. Said good luck finding another seat here (because it’s sold out)

We were without a seat the whole second half. Had to find a concourse area to stand and watch the whole rest of the game with throw up on us after paying $900 for seats. While standing in the concourse a younger woman rushes out throwing up and hitting our shoes. So that’s the Neyland experience these days? Pay $900 for two tickets to take your wife for the first time. Get thrown up on twice by unruly fans who can’t handle their alcohol. Lose your seats halfway through the game because vomit is all over them, and the stadium personnel can’t help you they just laugh.

My wife never wants to come back. And frankly I don’t either.. almost $1,000 for that. And to lose. Come on…

UT ticket office has reached out to me but I doubt they reimburse or do anything about it.

Just venting… I know it could be worse but I really was hoping for a great experience for her and some of our fans ruined it. Neyland is a place where I eventually wanted to get season tickets, bring our future kids too, etc. and Saturday wasn’t the best first impression on my wife.

Unlike the adult sized children coming on this board to whine about the game/coaches/etc. as if they're owed something, you have a legitimate gripe. I don't blame you or your wife for feeling the way you feel. I do hope that you'll give it another shot one day with a much better experience, but I understand if you don't. Hope UT does something about it.

There were a ton of premium seats empty behind the bench but $900 isn’t enough to sit down there even if your seats were ruined. An usher told me “he’d be fired” if he let us down there. when he said “go find other empty seats” I immediately pointed out those as the only empty seats in the whole stadium.

First game I took my whole family to was Bama 2012 or 14. The language was bad. Had kinda prepped the kids for that. Two UT fans throwing fists at each other on the concourse was not on my bucket list.

I'm not a drinker so I don't get the appeal but the belligerent, sloppy drunks should be tossed out.

2012 made me remember going to Florida game. That was the most belligerent and confrontational atmosphere I had ever witnessed in Neyland.

To be fair that was the only bad experience. Night game. All others have been day games and experience was much better. Sat in different sections each time. Day game in Baton Rouge was no issue either.

I've been to Baton Rouge once and I thought I was going to die. I wound up skipping school in 2005 (my sophomore year in high school) to go down there for the monday night game after Katrina. I thought I was going to die when LSU started their victory laps at halftime up 21-0 and then I thought I was going to die walking out of the stadium to our car wearing Orange.

I think nights game are a bigger issue with the alcohol. A lot of them tailgate and drink all day before going into the stadium so by the time they get into Neyland they are already 3 sheets to the wind.

“Unwanted physical contact with a bodily fluid.” You can press charges. With phones and such nowadays you can’t just knock a drunk out, so have them arrested. “Intent” has to be proven but at least they’d be on file and charged. Drink spills happen. If you’ve attended enough games you or the person you are with has accidently spilled a drink or forgot it was at their feet and kicked it over getting excited during a play, which gets everything under about 10 people wet somehow (this wife mistake cost me about $300 in beers for the people in front of us but they were happy by the 4th)
But throw up? Puke in your mouth or a cup or purse or your partner before you throw up on me or mine. I may even take a fall down the stairs after getting attacked by regurgitated Petros.

That's not harsh, it's just freaking stupid. Outside the student section a fan shouldn't have to worry about being thrown up on and having your seating ruined.

I guess it just is what it is. I’m not going to pretend I’ve never had a few and been buzzed inside the stadium, but the acceptance of people being completely wasted at football games is ridiculous.

The old lady may have experienced a seizure from the light show and deafening DJ crap. There are too many doctors and judges on Vol Nation..
