We can kiss the top half of the current roster goodbye. The Best will be bought. We can kiss 3/4 of the 8th ranked recruiting class goodbye. Same thing. And we can say “hello” to a 4-5 year rebuild with some very difficult schedules ahead. And that’s IF Tennessee hires the right guy.

The roster is just beginning now to look like a SEC roster. Yes there’s some holes to fill but every team has those. A small number of players here and there can fill those holes. Finally Tennessee was able to compete with Ga on the LOS most of the game. And that was with 2 of the top 3 DTs out. OL more than held their own. Yes. some changes have to be made but I trust Heupel to make those. This is the youngest team in the league for a reason this year. The majority of the young players have performed pretty well, especially at WR, OL & RB. I’m optimistic about talent at LB with Spillman & Perlotte coming on & some of the young DL. We need help in the secondary.

In your spare time, go back & look at the scores of Vols games vs Ga & Bama before Heupel. 41-0, 45-7, 43-10, etc. And those were with Nick & Kirby shutting it down in the 4th qtr. most of those games. Tennessee wasn’t even a good scrimmage for them. Tenn embarrassed the legacy of the TSIO. Florida won 14 outta 15 and they were as disfunctional as Tennessee vs everyone else. I’m not ready to go back there yet.

And the vocal minority is just that. The minority. For the umpteenth time, Josh needs to tweak his staff but he is NOT getting fired. The only way he is gone is if he decides to leave on his own and I don’t see that happening. I don’t know why the vocal minority can’t get that through their thick skulls.

Plus 20yrs of Dooley, Lyle, and Beldar as HC. I'll keep Josh. I said a 9-3, 8-4 season in August.

Hey, leave my cranium out of this please sir!! I am not saying CJH must go however, I feel strongly that he will never take us to a Natty or, SEC championship. Now, he could change that with two things: 1. Someone who truly understands offense and defenses and calls plays accordingly 2. A new Defensive coach.

Mediocrity is good for some folks but, the idiotic minority wants more than that.

I think there are some expressing frustration over the Oklahoma game. Granted it was a very disappointing loss. The team looked uncharacteristically sloppy against an slightly above average SEC team when a playoff spot was on the line.

That being said, Heupel has done an amazing job here. No sane fan here wants him fired. The future looks pretty bright with him leading the program.

Never is a long time and hard to predict. It is a waste of time to think Josh is getting canned right now but I’ve seen numerous threads about “If it happens, who can we get?” What is up for discussion in the absolute need to tweak the coaching staff as there is some dead wood there. Now if he chooses to stay loyal to his buddies, well……..

And I don’t believe mediocrity is a good term for Josh’s tenure considering what he took over. His record along with a playoff berth last year don’t scream mediocre. As someone said, mediocre was UT from 2007 to 2022. We are a far cry from that.

Look, I am NOT concerned about the vocal minority getting its way. Danny White is NOT going to fire Heupel. The only way Heupel leaves is if he is offered another coaching job for more money. And White surely will match that if that happens. And we need Heupel to stay. He is still a huge cut above what we had before he came to Knoxville. And if we let him go, there's no guarantee we'd get the homerun hire or the coach we want anyway. And a lot of our players would likely transfer, and many players of the 2026 class would decommit and go elsewhere. We have stability, something we haven't had in years, and that'd go out the window if we let Coach Josh Heupel walk. Which is NOT going to happen.

However, I do see White bringing in Heupel to his office after the season ends and telling him that he will need to make some changes to his coaching staff, which would be good.

I don’t think you can find 3. But Heupel has a lot more to clean up than Just staff. Some real stupid decision/lack of decisions have been made this year. 5 years in and we consistently get uninspired, undisciplined football, especially on the road.

I’m very critical, and I don’t think he’s the guy to win championships here, but this isn’t the year to kick him to the curb either.

I’m sure you have an impeccable resume that makes your knowledge of Heupel’s capabilities accurate.

Why sweat something that hasn't happened and certainly won't this year? Guess speculation is entertaining, but it has no basis in reality. White is not firing his guy unless the wheels fall off and the bottom falls out AND someone holds a gun to his head....and even then it probably won't happen.

99% of this site worshipped those guys.
My memory is failing me in my old age but I don’t remember that being the case. Especially after a year or two for each of them. I remember reasonable people trying to give them all a chance initially but it was painfully obvious after a year or two that they weren’t going to cut it.

There were national championship predictions for 2017.

No doubt…and then herbstreit, and social media sites pick it up and it’s all much ado about nothing. We knew this season was a 7-5/8-4 type season but outlook changed when JA came in and started playing great. This was always a gap year team.

Or, we could hire the perfect coach. Pay the right players and win a natty.

Right. Why are we even talking about this? Josh Heupel is Tennessee’s coach for the foreseeable future. Because he’s a fantastic coach. Just because a bunch of mouth-breathing weaklings come on here to throw a fit because they haven’t learned how to handle disappointment like adults, that doesn’t make this a viable topic.
