You know years ago one of my kids high school awarded a valedictorian to a guy that had a 4.0 . The thing is though, he didn’t take anything. He chose the easy route, yet he was rewarded, just like the polls and the CFP people do. It’s so stupid. Makes you wonder how. We play real teams in the hardest football conference period, and are 25. We could beat 75% of the teams ranked ahead of us.

We lost three games….lucky to even be 25. What’s our best win?

Most of our conference wins have been close wins.

Do you really think we could beat 18 of those teams. Have you watched any games this year???

You're not wrong. The committee has to figure out how to account for strength of schedule.

That said, ignore UT's losses and just take the six wins. Is that worthy of being aywhere close to the playoff?

We have also barely eeked out several games against bad teams. We could easily lose games vs many teams left out of the top 25.

We've actually lost to 3 of the top 5 team defenses in the SEC ( OU UGA Bama), and we've beaten 3 of the bottom 5 team defenses in the conference (Miss St Ark UK). So our record could be a lot worse and there are many teams who could beat us on any given day.

I asked someone this morning what have we done to be in the Top 25? Our wins are against teams with losing records except Miss St at 5-4 and 1-4 in the SEC. IMO, if we saw a team with our resume in the Top 25, we would laugh.

This is a great argument for throwing more NIL $ at defensive players. Just sayin'

I think the SEC has gotten weaker both at the top, middle, better at the bottom. Players want that money and they are unwilling to sit the bench to get it. The portal has allowed them to migrate to a starting position on another team. The talent is actually up overall but spread thinner across the 16 teams. So lets add another SEC game!

I agree that we are likely better than many of the teams ranked ahead of us. With that being said, we didn’t take care of business when we needed to. A few less turnovers and a couple of field goals made and we could be 9-0 or 8-1. Unfortunately, close doesn’t count. As Bill Parcels said, “You are what your record says you are.” If we want to start making regular playoff appearances we have to start handling business in the regular season.

I agree. In this world of AI, rankings can’t just be based on records. SOS, margin of victory, wins/losses at home vs away matter and should be taken into account and computer rankings are the only way to do it. Then the top ranked teams will play it out on the field.

So like Iowa, who has lost to both ranked teams they have played and their only win against a team with a winning record was at home against Minnesota. Maybe Washington, who has lost by 17 and 18 points to their two ranked opponents and have only beaten 6-3 Illinois. Perhaps Pitt, who also has no ranked wins, lost to the only ranked team they have played and also lost to a 3-6 West Virginia team. Yes, we have one more loss but those teams are all ranked higher and have similar resumes to us.

There's a reason AP courses can give you a 5.0 instead of just 4.0. But the difference is you still have to perform.

So has everyone else in the SEC. Texas barely beat UK and Miss St. Georgia struggled with Florida. Hell, Bama got blown out by FSU who isn't all that good either. Miami beat ND and are ranked 8 spots behind them in the CFP with the same record
