It was thought to be only a matter of time before Peyton Manning would announce his retirement, just off his team’s victory in Super Bowl 50. But according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that may not be in the cards at all.

On Monday, agent Tom Condon told SiriusXM NFL Radio that Manning has indicated he’d like to keep playing, according to Mike Florio.

On Tuesday, in an appearance on ESPN’s Mike & Mike, Adam Schefter confirmed the report that Manning would indeed like to keep playing.

He’d like to keep playing. In a perfect world, he’d like to keep playing. The question is who’s going to give him an opportunity. And it’s tough to identify that team right now that’s willing to sign him to the deal that makes it worthwhile for him, that allows him to continue playing.

Does he want to go move to another city? Because I think everbody at this point accepts and understands that he’s not going to be back in Denver. So the question is where does he go and play. It’s not going to be the Houston Texans. It’s probably not going to be the Los Angeles Rams. So you go find a team that would be willing to sign him.

Now, again, dominoes start falling. Moves start being made; one move begets another. All of a sudden, you didn’t see Denver losing Brock Osweiler. ‘Well how’d they lose Brock Osweiler?’ And all of a sudden, ‘Well maybe we should bring back Peyton Manning for one year.’ So things happen that change the dynamic of the situation, but as we stand here today on March 1, with the deadline franchise tag being at 4 o’clock today, it’s tough to find a match, as much as I think he would like to continue playing.

  1. If he could actually be Peyton, I am all for it if he wants to keep playing. I would love to see him play one more year. I wouldn’t like to see him play poorly though.

    • I believe that’s how most feel. The problem is the Peyton we saw this past year, wasn’t the Peyton we’re all used to. Nobody wants to see the greatest of all time struggle and tarnish his legacy.

In the end, I guess Peyton probably knows best what he’s physically capable of at this point.

Thanks for the comment, Dormandy Fan (win an “n”).

  2. It’s time to go Peyton, don’t stick around like Johnny U did, i hate to see him go but it’s time to kick back and drink all that Bud you were talking about after the SUPER BOWL.

    • I’m sure it’s hard to walk away from the game, but as an outsider looking in, it’s hard to understand why he wouldn’t want to just kick back at this point. In Peyton’s case, I don’t think it’s a money thing.

      Thanks for the comment Terry.

  3. Watching Peyton play this last season, let us all know that its time. Sometimes some of the great ones dont know how to hang it up.

    • Fair enough. But Peyton has played well enough recently to add more records to the long list of ones he holds and pick up some new hardware along they way.

I’m with you though, Jim. I think it’s probably time. And I think when it’s all said and done, he’s not coming back. We’ll see.

      Thanks for the comment Jim.

    • Yea I’m as big a fan ay Peyton as anyone in the country..But the comments that a lot were making about him being the worst starting qb in super bowl history are about all I can stand and i hate to hear people talk bad about Peyton but I don’t want him to keep playing and play too long as a lot of other great football players have done.

  4. Go out on top! What happens it he has another bad year and the team he plays for doesn’t make the playoffs? While I’m a huge Peyton fan, I’d rather see him retire and accept a position at UT!
