August 16, Wednesday (updating throughout the day)
- The man, the myth, the legend, Peyton Manning gave a nice motivational speech to the football team. He talked about what it means to be a team. “That’s how you win — you stick together.” — UT also released a few pictures of Manning in the locker room and also during Wednesday’s scrimmage (which was closed to the media, by the way): photo1 | photo2 | photo3 | photo4
- Tennessee received a new baseball commitment on Wednesday. Right-handed pitcher/outfielder Elijah Pleasants committed to the Vols.
- Tennessee currently has eight commits that are ranked in the ESPN 300. Only Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, Miami, Oregon and Florida have more.
- Tennessee running back commit Anthony Grant, who committed to the Vols back in June, received an award for athlete of the week at the Corky Kell luncheon. (another photo)
- UT released a short video this morning with the comment “#QBsWork.” The camera angles give quite the unique perspective.
- Peter Burns has Tennessee with the No. 2 home field advantage in the SEC. We should be first. #ESPNHatesUs
- It’s pretty bad that we need an injury tracker already, but we have one. The list has grown to three: Hall, Calbert and Jones.
- Rick Barnes and company offered 2018 Georgia center Mohammed Abdulsalam from Decatur, Georgia. He’s listed at 6-foot-8 and weighs 268 points and is rated three stars by 247sports.
- Of all the Detroit Lions who participated in their game against the Colts on Sunday, guess who graded out the highest according to Pro Football Focus? If you guess Jalen Reeves-Maybin, you’re a winner! #VolsEverywhere.
- I asked the question a couple days ago if you’d like to see Evan Berry on offense. Butch Jones was asked yesterday if Berry could see some touches on offense. “There’s a possibility there,” Butch Jones said after practice on Tuesday, “but the first thing is we have to get Evan’s health back. It starts at the safety position, it starts as a kickoff returner and then obviously you could see his role kind of be expanded a little bit on the offensive side of the ball as well.”
- If you missed yesterday’s FreakNotes, check it out.

Love this Freak. Except for that little phrase “and growing” about the injury thread. Needs to say 3 injuries and finished… Nothing more to see here till February!
Yeah, that was terribly worded on my part. Lol. It has grown to three. It’s stopping there.
