August 17, Thursday (updating throughout the day)
- Story time. Do you remember the tale of the Dobbnail Boot? Good times, indeed.
- Tennessee appears to have added another new baseball commit: Chase Silseth, who is a RHP/C from Farmington, NM.
- Derek Barnett’s Eagles face off against Jason Croom’s Bills tonight at 7 p.m.
- This video clip of Tennessee defensive end commit Dorian Gerald… just watch it for yourself.
- Off Topic: It’s comical to see Clay Travis and Derek Dooley discussing which of of them has better hair. They seem to agree that it’s Dooley, which surely must be a devastating admission for Travis, who often compliments his own hair.
- It’s interesting to think about the fact that Tennessee amassed 1,179,834 in total attendance last season. I’m not sure where that ranks, but it has to be at or near the top.
- Barton Simmons is quite confident that Quinten Dormady is Tennessee’s starting quarterback. That’s not surprising really. The question that remains is whether both quarterbacks will play against Georgia Tech.
- The Sporting News gave a best case and worse case scenario for each of its preseason top 25 teams, including No. 25 Tennessee. Personally, I prefer the best case: “Quinten Dormady or Jarrett Guarantano seizes control as starting quarterback in a convincing Labor Day victory against Georgia Tech. The defensive line flourishes under Brady Hoke, and John Kelly is a star at running back. The Vols knock off rivals Florida and Georgia in September and, despite a loss at Alabama in Tuscaloosa, surge back to the SEC championship game for the first time since 2007 with a 10-2 record.”
- I failed to mention it yesterday, but it’s worth noting, that former Vol and current Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten will have the man of the year award named after him, presented after the 2017 season to the FBS level player who has “demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field.” The winner of the award will be named in December. Well deserved. #VFL
- A.J. Johnson received some good news yesterday as the Tennessee Supreme Court backed his bid to see alleged victim’s social media. — forum discussion: AJ Johnson Update Please
- Tennessee had a scrimmage on Wednesday. But, unfortunately, it was completely closed to the media so there hasn’t been any information about it part from the rumblings that Quinten Dormady hurt his wrist. Soon after, Austin Price wrote he doesn’t believe Dormady is seriously injured. “After talking to multiple people in the last little bit, we don’t believe Dormady is seriously injured. We were told there is no concern there, but we will continue to check on it.” UT did release a nice photo gallery, which does include some nice action shots. — There is no practice today.
- I hope everyone is having an exceptional Thursday. If you missed yesterday’s FreakNotes, check it out. The quarterback cam and the Peyton Manning video were my two favorites. Oh, and the Eli Wolf scholarship presentation made SportsCenter this morning.
