in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

One of the top overall players in the country for the class of 2011 is Chandler, Arizona (Hamilton) Christian Westerman. The 6-foot-6, 290-pounder is having another dominant season for the defending Arizona state champion and perennial powerhouse, Hamilton Huskies. Vol Nation caught up Christian’s father, who is in charge of his son’s recruitment and we discussed his son’s junior season, the early stages of his recruitment and much more.

It has been said many times that Westerman has received an offer from Lane Kiffin and the Vols, but if an official offer was issued, it hasn’t been received by the Westerman family.

“We have heard and even read that we have an offer on the way and that we have one from the University of Tennessee but to this point we haven’t seen anything in the mail. In the past, I have exchanged emails with Coach Kiffin but have not spoken with him since the season got underway.”

Mr. Westerman continued to discuss the situation with Tennessee and what he and his son are looking for from the UT staff.

“We are already up to 17 official written offers but as far as we know, one of those is not from the University of Tennessee. Sometimes there is a mix up in the mail or in communication but we hope to be in touch with Coach Kiffin and the staff soon.”

Christian’s mother and her entire side of the family live in SEC country, while his father and his family are all on the west coast and Pac-10 country so they claim that distance is not a factor at all and that Christian has been all over and will feel comfortable wherever he winds up.

The ratings are yet to come out but it is common knowledge among the “experts” that the younger Westerman will be one of the top 20 or so players in the class of 2011 rankings and almost assuredly a 5-star when the ratings do come out.

This past summer at the USC Rising Stars Camp, which was chocked full of 5-star defensive linemen, Westerman, one of the few junior offensive linemen, was the only offensive linemen that came even remotely close to stopping some of the top defensive talent in the country. He is built like he came out of an offensive tackle factory with a huge frame, very long arms and massive hands that allow him to get into defensive linemen and control things from that point on.

Mr. Westerman did say that he would be in contact with the staff sooner than later in order to figure out what is really going on with an official offer but until then, the Westerman’s will continue to do their research as they are open to every school that offers them and they promise to give everyone a fair shot. His father said that they have already been to a number of schools but they plan on making it to every school that offers at some point over the next 12-14 months.

While there is no offer in hand, the Vols remain firmly in the mix for one of the most dominating players of next year’s class and Vol Nation will keep you up to date on all the developments that are sure to arise with Christian Westerman’s recruitment.

I still am amazed that I have not had any contact from the VOLS and Coach Kiffin. I guess they are not interested in this young man?
