in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

Ray-DrewESPN 150 Watch List member Ray Drew is one of the more sought after defensive end prospects in the southeastern region. Drew, a 6-foot-5, 240 pound target picked up a scholarship offer from Tennessee and we caught up with him to talk recruiting.

“Recruiting has started to pick up,” Drew said. “I have started to hear from a lot of other schools with mail and teams have been talking with my head coach.”

There has been much speculation that Drew would be a lock to Florida State, shutting the door for schools like Tennessee and Alabama. Drew put the speculation to rest.

“I am not a lock to Florida State by a long shot. I’m wide open at this point. There is so many changes going on at Florida State that I don’t know what to think. FSU is still a great program and all but I want to go where it is best for me and that could be somewhere else.”

Leaving the door wide open will be one of the ten plus schools already giving Drew attention, one school happens to be Tennessee.

“Yeah I’m interested in UT, I like what Coach Kiffin has done up there already. You can tell that they’re going to be really good in a hurry.”

Drew was very high on the entire Vol staff and the fanbase in general.

“You can tell that they (the staff) really care about their players. They standup for each other and all work for a common goal. Coach Kiffin came to win and win early and it is an honor that he thinks I have what it takes to be apart of that.”

Alabama’s offer to Drew was very early, which made an impact on the prized Georgia product.

“Yeah that meant a lot for them to offer me so early. Coach Smart is a really cool guy. I like Alabama and they are definitely a team I am interested in.”

He is going to keep his eye on the bowl games closely, as he begins off-season workouts for his senior year of football.

“I don’t have a leading school at this time. I’m wide open to any of the schools that have offered me. I don’t mind playing out of state and I am going to treat this recruitment like a business. This isn’t about my favorite team, this is about the team that is the best fit for me and my future.”
