With the 2010 class almost finished schools are starting to get to work on the 2011 class and for some schools the focus has shifted entirely over to 2011. For Tennessee the program is still working on the final pieces to the 2010 class but that hasn’t stopped the Vols’ staff from looking towards 2011.
One player to get an early offer from the Tennessee football program is Tacoi Sumler (Miami, FL/ Christopher Columbus HS). VolNation.com caught up with Sumler about the recent coaching change and where he is currently standing in his recruitment.
“I got offered just a few weeks ago by the staff at Arkansas,” explained Sumler. “I got offered to play wide receiver at Arkansas and it is an offer I am interested in.”
Sumler had 32 catches for 509 yards and six scores as a sophomore and then this past fall recorded 59 catches for 998 yards and 17 touchdowns with two kickoffs for touchdowns.
“I like the ball in my hands and they are giving me a shot at that so it is something I will look into. I also love the SEC and Arkansas is in the SEC so they have that as well.”
Sumler reports offers from South Carolina, Ole Miss, Tennessee, West Virginia, FIU, Florida State, Clemson, Tulane, Stanford, and the Arkansas offer.
With an early Tennessee offer Sumler informed VolNation back when the offer came that Tennessee was a school he was seriously looking at and this still hasn’t changed.
“I am still interested in Tennessee a lot and the coaching change hasn’t changed anything for me. I haven’t heard much from the new staff however so I’d like to get to know them more before I say they are a favorite or anything.”
A big reason Sumler is becoming more and more of a hot commodity is the blazing speed he posses.
“I run a 4.33-second yard dash and it keeps getting better,” said Sumler. “I use my speed to my advantage and try and make plays.
Sumler denied the idea that he’s got any leaders at the moment.
“Right now I am keeping an even keel on things and not making any favorites. I am going to be taking a visit to Clemson and South Carolina for spring break and then after that I’d like to do some combines before and after spring break.”
