Chris FrittsKNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The diving catch made by University of Tennessee freshman outfielder Chris Fritts in the seventh inning of Sunday’s game against No. 10 Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., was tabbed No. 9 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 “Plays of the Day” on Monday.

With a runner on first and one out just moments after the Beavers scored their first run of the day on Sunday, OSU’s Carter Bell drove an 0-1 pitch from UT starter Stephen McCray to deep left. Although the ball was slicing away from him, Fritts made a leaping grab, somersaulted on the warning track and gunned it back into shortstop Zach Osborne who was able to relay it to Cody Stubbs at first to double up Parker Berberet to end the inning and the Oregon State threat.

In his first season at UT, Fritts has played in all six of the Orange and White’s games, starting four contests, and is hitting .250 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Footage of the play was provided by David Murphy, Boon Kruger and the Beaver Sports Show, while UTSports.com’s Roger Hoover provided commentary.

The Volunteers (4-2) will be back in action Wednesday afternoon when Eastern Kentucky makes the trip to Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville for a 4 p.m. showdown.
