Daryl Collins (Gadsden City/Gadsden AL) is one of Alabama’s best ’11 prospects. He has seen much more interest from elite programs as of late. Alabama, Tennessee, USC, and Auburn are some of the top contenders for this in-state star’s services.
Volnation asked six questions to Collins regarding his game, his team, and his recruitment.
Will Matthews – “So Daryl, how have you been handling all of the latest attention and offers?
Daryl Collins – “I’m just taking it day by day. We are working very hard to try and improve on last year’s run. Working in the weight room and hitting the books hard have kept me focused.”
WM – “Tell me about your off season training program. Do you think that you have improved since the semifinals of last year’s playoffs?”
DC – “Oh yeah definitely. I powercleaned 245 yesterday and that is much more than I have done in the past. I ran the forty the other day in the low 4.5s but I’m trying to get it in the 4.4 range. I’m also working on my explosiveness with my feet and hips.”
WM – “What are some of your strengths as a wide receiver?”
DC – “I have good speed and I can catch the ball in traffic. Corners have trouble jamming me because of my take off. My double moves have improved also.”
WM – “How has recruiting been going for you?”
DC – “It’s been good. I have been able to check out Alabama and Auburn and I’m going to see Knoxville this weekend. Learning about what each school has to offer has been neat but it isn’t like I haven’t seen this before. I’m kinda used to all of this recruiting stuff after watching Dre (Kirkpatrick), Kendall (Kelly), Dale (Trimble), and Jerrell (Harris) go through it.”
WM – “How was Junior Day in Tuscaloosa?”
DC – “It went great. I was able to talk with Coach Saban and he gave me my offer in person. He wanted to let me know that I was a priority for them which is why he did it in person. The whole trip top to bottom was great. I’ve been to Tuscaloosa a lot so it just feels like home when I get down there.”
WM – “Are you looking forward to visiting Knoxville?”
DC – “Oh yeah, they have shown me a lot of love. I am ready to get up there and see what they are all about. Dale (Trimble) has told me great things about them.
Collins is looking hard at Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, and USC. He’s going to be active this summer in the camp, combine, and clinic circuits and is poised to have another steller season for the Gadsden City Titans.

Daryl collins is my nephew and I have watched him play football from the time that he was three years old. He’s very good at whatever position he plays. He will give his all. It does not matter whether he’s on the field or at home. He’s a beast once he has that ball. If anyone has ever saw him play in the street, or in the yard, you would just stand there amazed. I say that because I have seen it all. From broken knuckles to broken arms, to skin taken off his face from running into bricks after catching the ball. He broke his tale bone but continued playing. Daryl is not going to let anything keep him away from the only game that he has known every since he was three.
His first game was with the Seminoles. Although he played hurt, he was the star of the game. I am his aunt and I know what he can do. I want everyone else to really see what he can do. Daryl taught himself to play through pain. You would have to drag him away from the field. He’s the same way from the first time I saw him play on grass, in the street, or wherever. I am not just saying that because he’s my nephew. You have got to see him to believe it. He’s just one of a kind. That’s my baby, just a good person. When Daryl is playing with pain and you know he is in pain, it is hard to take him off the field. Believe me, when the pain is too much for him to bear, he will treat the game like it is over.
