One of the top defensive linemen in the country for 2011 is none other than Evangel Christian (La.) defensive end Jermauria Rasco.
Rasco has already received a ton of attention from SEC schools, including Tennessee. Rasco is a physical specimen who has been destroying Louisiana high school offenses since he was a freshman.
Rasco tallied more than 100 tackles from his defensive end position as a freshman in ’07. As a sophomore in ’08, Rasco tallied 140 plus tackles with an eye-popping 26 sacks. His junior season was just as impressive, making over 20 tackles behind the line of scrimmage while most teams ran away from his side.
Rasco stands 6-foot-4, weighs 244 pounds and runs the 40 in a remarkable 4.6 seconds.
I was able to speak with Rasco about his skills, his high school team and recruiting in general.
Will Matthews – So Jermauria, what did you do this summer to get ready for your junior season?
Jermauria Rasco – I worked very hard in the weight room. We got after it each and every day. I also worked with someone to build up my quickness and speed.
WM – What is one of your biggest strengths as a player?
Rasco – My speed hands down. On passing downs when I get to pin my ears back and go get the quarterback, I’m quick of the edge. I’m able to get past offensive tackles because of my speed.
WM – And what is something regarding your game that you want to work on this year?
Rasco – Everything. I’m not satisfied with where I’m at. I just want to become a better overall player.
WM – Well, what’s one of your biggest goals at this point in your high school career.
Rasco – We want to play for and win the state championship. Also, I want to beat my regular season sack record from last year (18).
WM – How is that second goal going? Are you seeing a lot more double teams this year?
Rasco – Definitely. Teams are using backs out of the backfield to help block me on the edge. Then a lot of times they just run away from me. It’s going good though. I have 4.5 sacks through two games.
WM – How are you doing in the classroom?
Rasco – I have a 3.1 GPA. I’m working hard in the classroom, and I recently made a 23 on my ACT.
WM – What do you think about all of the attention that you’ve received throughout the early part of this season?
Rasco – It’s kind of fun to have the college coaches look at me as a junior, but I have to stay humble and focused on this year.
Rasco went on to tell us that he is still wide open and is not ready to make a decision yet. Stay close to VolNation for much more on this LA standout.
